After failing to tally a goal or an assist in 8 games this season, winger Ryan Jones has been assigned to the Nashville Predators' AHL affiliate in Milwaukee.

From the Nashville Predators:

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has recalled forward Mike Santorelli from Milwaukee (AHL), and reassigned forward Ryan Jones to the Admirals.

Santorelli, 23 (12/14/85), started 2009-10 with the Predators, suiting up for each of the club's first five games (0g-0a). Upon being reassigned to the Admirals on Oct. 15, he registered eight points (4g-4a) in four games, including five points (1g-4a) in his 2009-10 AHL debut on Oct. 16 at Abbotsford and three goals in two games last weekend. Nashville's sixth choice, 178th overall (sixth round), in the 2004 Entry Draft is pointless in 12 career NHL contests.

Jones, 25 (6/14/84), played in eight of Nashville's first 10 games in 2009-10, averaging 9:01 while being held pointless. In 25 AHL games a season ago, he posted 13 goals and 22 points.

So what do you think, Predators fans? Can Santo light the lamp in a return stint here in Nashville? And how big of a disappointment has Ryan Jones been this fall, after earning a new contract?

Are they going to put Santorelli right back on the wing? Why not give Olvecky a shot?

That will be the question, certainly. In the interview from this morning’s Monday News article, Trotz indicated that the Santo-on-the-wing experiment was a dud.

More fun than a stick to the face!

He actually would shoot the puck. See what he can do again. Jones wasn’t doing much of anything. Peter Olvecky hasn’t done much of anything in 4 AHL seasons.

Interesting…

Santorelli is now playing center for the organization and has been tearing it up at Milwaukee since his return, therefore he should bring a lot of confidence back to Nashville this time.

Jones hasn’t been impressive at all this season, starting with a poor training camp performance and continuing into the regular season. He has split time with Belak and Guite at points this season rotating into the lineup on the fourth line and that cannot be good for his development or confidence.

Better to make this switch now while we are still struggling to find offense and allow Jones to hopefully go to Milwaukee where he can get big minutes to gain some confidence and hopefully find his game to make himself a viable recall option later this season.

With Santorelli back up and firmly entrenched at center, one can only speculate that Legwand might now see some time on the wing with O’Reilly, Wilson, Scatchard, Goc, and Smithson all also in the lineup and able to play at center.

Will be interesting to see what the lines are…the team is currently practicing out in Franklin and I’ll be at practice tomorrow morning back at Centennial to maybe get a glimpse…

looks to me like we are clutching at straws and hoping. i did think legwand should have started the year at wing. maybe w/ wilson or 3rd line w/ jones/ward/goc or like combo
