Flyers put D Randy Jones through re-entry waivers; should the Predators bite?

The Philadelphia Flyers have reportedly put defenseman Randy Jones through re-entry waivers as they recall him from the AHL, which means that any team that wants him would split paying his salary 50/50 with Philadelphia.

Given the Predators' struggles early this season, is it worth bringing in a veteran for only half of his $2.75 million salary?

This, from Randy's scouting report on his profile page:

Scouting Report

Assets
  • Has good size and solid puck-moving skills. Is capable of logging important minutes and will play the body. Can also chip in with some offense.
Flaws
  • Is extremely inconsistent in the hitting department and could stand to play a more physical game. Must tighten up his defensive-zone coverage.
Career Potential
  • Top six defenseman.

Please no. We don’t want to pay him to play for Nashville.

We already have an R. Jones. Adding this guy would cause too much confusion.

Definitely worth a look. Two years at half price make this an attractive option. If it works out, Hamhuis and his impending FA contract become portable.
