Monday's news: Did the Predators' good start spoil a Dallas guarantee?

The Monday after a Predators win certainly feels a little better, doesn't it? Of course, the fact that it was couple with a Titans loss raises an interesting question for the Nashville sports fan.

Meanwhile, back in Dallas, color commentator Daryl Reaugh is back-pedaling from his "guarantee" that the Stars would win the game Saturday night. His actual words?

In the epiphany of epiphanies I have just guaranteed the Stars will open the season 1-0.

I did so on The Ticket this morning during fellow Emmy-endowed broadcast journalist Gordon Keith's apprpriately[sic] branded "Gordo's Corner", and I backed it up with a commitment to purchase every fan in attendance a ticket to another game should the unthinkable unfold and the Stars lose to the Predators this weekend. (won't happen...but if it does...)

Well, instead they've opened up 0-0-1, and folks are asking when they'll get their tickets. Unfortunately, "Razor" doesn't see it that way:

What's that? It was not a Stars win as I had guaranteed. Really? Wasn't it?

Let's review.

The Stars outshot the Preds 40-26...win.
The Stars won the 3rd period 1-0...win.
The Stars hit two posts to the Preds one...win.
The Stars won the "knock a player out of the game" 1-0 because Modano came back for the shootout...win

And so on.

You get the picture.

Razor, you need to make good on your promise, regardless of how stupid it was to make in the first place. Especially in these economic times, you don't dangle stuff out there like that and then renege.

OK, enough of the bile - after the jump, your daily dose of Predators and NHL news...

In New York, the Rangers have given defenseman Michael Del Zotto a 9-game NHL tryout, after which they'll need to decide whether to return him to his junior club. It's a similar situation as exists between the Predators and 2009 1st-round draft pick Ryan Ellis.

Wang's Lighthouse deadline passes, script of mistrust continues - Lighthouse Hockey
The tone is getting decidedly dire on Long Island, where owner Charles Wang continues to make little headway towards getting his Lighthouse Project approved. I don't pretend to command all the details of this struggle, but it sounds like Wang's patience is wearing thin, and that relocation might become a viable option for the Islanders.

what a wuss

He has also started an “I hate Dan Ellis” club. I looked for a way to send him a picture, as my daughter made a sign for a Preds/Dallas game last year in which she thanks them for him (he was playing great and she wanted to rub a little salt into their wounds). Unfortunately, he doesn’t have a way to attach a pic to an email….

Anyone else think...

That David Boclair is putting a personal bias into his articles? It seems like with last week’s “Blame Trotz for Radulov” article and today’s two entries with several curious word choices to boot that he seems to have an issue with the way the team is being managed…

I have no problem with questioning pretty much any aspect of the team, but I’m not going to continue reading articles where I get the distinct impression I’m talking with someone who already has their minds made up and are going to slant everything to meet their agenda…

The article seems pretty fair to me. Which language stood out to you as biased? The defense could have been tighter and we have been bad on the road….
