Patric Hornqvist's two goals lift Nashville to 3-2 victory over Colorado
Patric Hornqvist scored two goals 2:17 seconds apart in the third quarter as the Nashville Predators rose to a 3-2 victory in the home opener in front of just under 15k fans. The Predators had 37 shots on goal and Dan Ellis made 22 stops on 24 Avalanche shots in the victory. Jason Arnott also had a goal and an assist for Nashville, which is now undefeated after two games. Just before the late comeback, officials waved off an apparent goal by Jason Arnott, saying that he kicked the puck in.
Look for a complete game recap and analysis tomorrow, but suffice to say that the top line of Sullivan-Arnott-Hornqvist generated all the offense for Nashville tonight, with 18 shots between them (as compared to the Santorelli-Legwand-Erat line which combined for 5). Highlights after the jump...

Puck Daddy predicted....
…a shutout for Anderson. But he didn’t promise tickets to fans if he was incorrect…
Great 3rd Period effort ...
… especially after the disheartening wide open miss of Arnott. Still can’t believe his stick missed the puck (incidentally, it would’ve given Hornqvist another assist). They didn’t let up, to their credit, and their determination payed dividends.
Forgot to mention ...
… how nice it is to see the Preds outshoot an opponent every once in awhile.

couldn't tell...
from the online highlights. I thought there had to be a “distinct kicking motion” to discredit goals anymore. It looked like Arnott just slid his skates into the puck as he was coming to a stop. Shouldn’t the goal have counted since it was not a distinct kicking motion?
Regardless, great to see the team come back from behind. And always nice to prove “analysts” wrong.
Finally, I can’t stand to see Red Wings jerseys at the game. Especially when they aren’t even playing in the arena!
You are correct, Evanbio. That’s exactly what Trotz was yelling at the ref when he called it off. Regarless, our guys didn’t let it suck the wind out of our sails.
I haven’t gotten a chance to look at the online replay yet, but it sure didn’t look like a kick to me. He was attempting a hockey stop, and had all his weight on the leg which directed the puck in, making it impossible to kick with that foot.
More fun than a stick to the face!
On the Forecheck is SB Nation's blog covering the Nashville Predators.
replay?
Too bad replay couldn’t correct this. I thought that all plays in the NHL were reviewed by the league officials in NY (which I think is somewhat crap, but…..).
As expat said, at least the Preds didn’t let that deflate them. Good come back win for the team.
It did go to replay, that’s the amazing thing.

When they replayed Arnott’s goal on the big screen, the place went wild. While everyone waited for the call from the replay group it was played repeatedly and the tension built up. When the replay call confirmed the ref’s call, it got really, really loud. It sure looked like Arnott simply slid into the crease and his skate tipped the puck in.
Glad the Preds made the 3rd period comeback.
Initial call on the ice was "No Goal"
Therefore, the burden of proof is on the video review in Toronto to find conclusive evidence to overrule the official. Honestly, it doesn’t happen much…
