By receiving more than twice as many votes as his nearest competitor in an 8-man field, Pekka Rinne was voted by the readers of On the Forecheck as the Nashville Predators MVP for the 1st quarter of the 2009-10 NHL regular season.
Having assumed command of the Nashville net after a shaky training camp, it's no surprise that Rinne's stock is soaring these days. After dropping his first four decisions to start the season, he has won 10 of his last 11, including two shutouts. Given the Preds' 29th-ranked offense (with only 2.27 goals per game), team defense and goaltending performance are perhaps the most critical factors in the team's success during the month of November.
Can Rinne keep the steady play going as the Predators battle Colorado tonight, then return home for 3 games in 4 nights? If he wants to win a job on Finland's Olympic team, he'd better...
