Nashville Predators ring in the new year with 2-1 overtime win at Columbus

Thanks in part to hard work "On the Forecheck" by Joel Ward, the Nashville Predators took a 2-1 overtime decision over the Blue Jackets tonight in Columbus. David Legwand scored the winner just 28 seconds into the extra session after Ward created a turnover behind the Blue Jackets' net.

On a similar play midway through the third period, Ward set up Andreas Thuresson for his first career NHL goal, which tied the game after Columbus scored in the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. Dan Ellis earned the win by stopping 31 of 32 Columbus shots. Nashville extended its record to 24-14-3, good for 5th place in the Western Conference to close out 2009.

Things of beauty

Ward’s hard work behind the BJ net in overtime was wondrous, and so was the butterfly tattoo on the woman who sat behind the Preds bench.

Both of those were things of beauty. And Ward’s play was pretty good too.

man

The BJs are our whooping boys. Incredible. Good thing, too, cause I despise them.

One really wouldn’t think that Legwand and Ward would be the ones creating 4 on 4 scores, but hey-thats the way the season’s gone.

I tell ya, the last two victories have been more typical “Predators” hockey than we’ve seen in quite a while. That’s a great sign…

More fun than a stick to the face!
