Preds make it to OT, fall to Ducks 4-3

Joel Ward's second goal of the game with 2:45 left in the third period earned a crucial point in the standings for the Nashville Predators Wednesday night, as they eventually lost in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks 4-3. Teemu Selanne got the game winner while the Ducks enjoyed a power play that carried over from the end of regulation.

Star-divide

Penalties were the story of the night, as five of the seven goals scored by both teams came with the man advantage. At even strength, the Ducks line of Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf and Bobby Ryan gave the Preds fits, as evidenced by some of the Corsi numbers* from last night's game, courtesy of TimeOnIce.com (from even strength play only):

Individual Team while On Ice
Player Goals Saved Shots Missed Shots Blocked Goals Saved Shots Missed Shots Blocked Corsi
 Bobby Ryan 0 4 0 2 1 10 1 5 +8
 Corey Perry 1 2 0 1 1 10 0 5 +6
 Ryan Getzlaf 0 2 0 0 1 10 0 5 +8
 Martin Erat 0 2 0 0 0 4 0 1 -10
 David Legwand 0 0 0 0 0 4 0 1 -12
 Steve Sullivan 0 2 0 0 0 4 0 1 -10

Just about any Preds fan watching this game was simply thrilled to see the Ward goal force overtime, giving the team a point on the night, and 5 out of a possible 6 in the first 3 games of this road trip, which concludes tonight in San Jose.

*Recall that the Corsi number represents the net of Total Shots for and against while a given player is on the ice. Total Shots = Goals + Saved Shots + Shots that miss the net + Shots that are blocked by an opponent.
