Predators Update, March 27 2009

With the Preds back in 8th place after last night's huge win over the Sharks, let's see what's going on in Nashville's hockey world this morning:

For recaps of last night's action from the local bloggers, check out Rachel's What the Puck, Preds on the Glass, The View from 111, and Brandon Felder & Paul McCann at Hockeybuzz.

David Climer, sports columnist for the Tennessean, pens a rare column about the Preds, citing their spirit in overcoming adversity against San Jose.

John Glennon gives credit to Radek Bonk, who along with Jerred Smithson, kept Joe Thornton off the scoresheet last night.

While you're at work or in your car today, look for a player interview along with other Preds talk during the Thom Abraham Show on WNSR (AM 560) from noon to 3:00. If you can't pick up the signal, they have streaming audio available online. UPDATE: Associate Coach Brent Peterson will be Thom's guest at 2:05 p.m. Central.

While the passion of a playoff race is exciting, nothing excuses this special brand of idiocy; a Flames fan in Dublin, Ohio, was arrested last night after phoning in multiple threats to Columbus goalie Steve Mason, as he was shutting Calgary out 5-0 last night.

Did you know that Nashville defenseman Kevin Klein is going to be a father soon? His wife Jodi is expecting their first child, due Monday.

The Edmonton Oilers stumbled in Phoenix last night, losing their 3rd straight game. Meanwhile, St. Louis topped Vancouver 4-2, keeping the "all 5 Central Division teams in the playoffs" hopes alive.

Tonight's scoreboard watch really boils down to just one game. The Anaheim Ducks, winners of 5 straight, host the slumping Oilers. The most important thing here is for the game to end in regulation (curse you, OTL "pity point"!), although SportsClubStats gives a slightly better bump to the Preds' chances if the Oilers win.

Loss in the Excitement

The most amazing thing I came across last night in doing our story was that Zanon’s goal was his first Game Winner in his NHL carrier. I wished I had realized that earlier and asked him about it after the game. It was a huge game for someone who needs to be resigned ASAP.
