Nashville Predators sign Colin Wilson to pro contract

From the Nashville Predators:

Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has signed forward Colin Wilson, the club’s first choice (seventh overall) in the 2008 Entry Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract.

Wilson, 19 (10/20/89), helped Boston University win the NCAA National Championship during his sophomore season in 2008-09, and finished second in the nation in both points (55) and assists (38). The Greenwich, Conn., native was also one of three 2009 Hobey Baker “Hat Trick” Finalists, the award given to college hockey’s most outstanding player, in addition to being selected a First-Team East All-American. The 6-1, 213-pound center was co-Hockey East Scoring Champion, named First-Team All-Hockey East and was selected to the 2009 Frozen Four All-Tournament team in the Terriers run to the title.

On Wednesday, Wilson was selected to the United States’ entry at the 2009 World Championships in Switzerland April 24-May 10. He has participated in the past two World Junior Championships, and was named Team USA’s Most Outstanding Player in 2009 after posting nine points (3g-6a) in six games. At the 2008 World Juniors, he tied for first in the tournament in goals with six tallies in as many contests.

UPDATE: John Glennon tells us that Wilson will make $875,000 (base salary + signing bonus) in each of the next three seasons, with a cap number each year of $1.725 million based on potential performance bonuses.

Wilson will look mighty fine learning with Nik Antropov, who I’m thinking would be a good free agent signing for the Predators….that’s if the Leafs don’t bring him back first. ;)

Now that I think about it, Antropov would also be a great mentor/translator/comfort blanket for Radulov, too, if he ever comes back.
