What was curious was that Versteeg landed among the finalists ahead of the Nashville Predators' Pekka Rinne, who posted numbers comparable to Mason's, and had the same impact on his team – salvaging a season that might have gone hopelessly off the rails without his strong work. Presumably, the fact that Nashville's playoff bid came up short in the final 72 hours of the season tilted the scales in Versteeg's favor. That, or the fact that is sometimes just far easier to vote off the scoring sheet, which may be why the Los Angeles Kings' peerless Drew Doughty, who has been selected to play for Canada at the men's world hockey championships, was overlooked as well.

can be ROY next year. That’ll make up for Rinne not being nominated.
