The Preds put forth a hard-fought effort against an opponent with superior talent up front, but couldn't muster enough offense to hang with them. The lone Nashville goal came from a drive-the-net play by Cal O'Reilly, this time the beneficiary of a Joel Ward rebound.

How depleted was the Predators offense tonight? Their leading shooter was Jed Ortmeyer with 4, and he was just called up from Milwaukee to fill a checking role after Antti Pihlstrom went down to injury.

Combine this with Minnesota staying alive by beating Calgary 4-0, and the Preds have put themselves in a position where they need to win 3 out of their 4 remaining games to reach 90 points and a likely postseason bid.

There's little time to ruminate over this one, however, as Nashville hosts Columbus Saturday night at home.
