Another gritty loss puts the Preds on the brink

Stay connected for news and updates

There's not much to say about tonight's loss in Chicago that wasn't already said about Tuesday's game in Columbus. The Preds put forth a hard-fought effort against an opponent with superior talent up front, but couldn't muster enough offense to hang with them. The lone Nashville goal came from a drive-the-net play by Cal O'Reilly, this time the beneficiary of a Joel Ward rebound.

How depleted was the Predators offense tonight? Their leading shooter was Jed Ortmeyer with 4, and he was just called up from Milwaukee to fill a checking role after Antti Pihlstrom went down to injury.

Combine this with Minnesota staying alive by beating Calgary 4-0, and the Preds have put themselves in a position where they need to win 3 out of their 4 remaining games to reach 90 points and a likely postseason bid.

There's little time to ruminate over this one, however, as Nashville hosts Columbus Saturday night at home.
