Nashville #7 in North American sports cities
In a study comparing the winning tendencies of major professional sports teams in 37 North American cities, TheStar.com reported Nashville as the #7 sports city. A tip o' the hat goes to Stampede Blue for noting that Indianapolis came in at #1.

What’s amazing is that a little more than a decade ago, there were no pro-sports teams in Nashville.

not so sure
I have a lot of pride in Nashville and both the teams, but i’d really like to see a breakdown of the numbers they used.
Boston teams have won many championships and had playoff contending teams in 3 of the 4 sports for most of the last decade+ and even the Bruins are good now. The Pacers haven’t been good for a while, and while the Colts have been solid, they can’t challenge the Patriots record.
The article says it only counted the “4 major” sports, and only counted cities with 2 or more teams. San Antonio is thus not listed… but Edmonton (#9) and Calgary (#16) are listed. HUH? Unless someone relocated that i don’t remember, they just have one hockey team each.

I think they must be counting the Canadian Football League teams for Edmonton and Calgary

small shot from the Star
Canada still gives Nashville no credit, calling us “Another pro-sports parvenu of the New South.” Thanks Canada.

As a native living in Toronto, I’m more amazed that Toronto isn’t ranked last in these numerous sports city rankings. So take it with a grain of salt. I think the TorStar staff were more surprised about the actual results than they initially predicted, and the fact that Vancouver ranked 3rd despite losing a horrifically bad NBA team within the time frame of the study should indicate the selective data of their analysis.
