Preparing for the SB Nation NHL Mock Draft

As James Mirtle previews this afternoon, the SB Nation hockey blogs are going to do a mock NHL Entry Draft, and I want to get your input as to who the Preds should select at the #11 spot (no trading of picks in this exercise).

So to get things started, I'm going to run with the following poll, which will also be featured in the sidebar for the next few days. I'm going to put some player capsules out here in a series of short articles covering the likely suspects. I highly recommend searching through the SB Nation sites, where there are a wealth of player profiles available. The best place to start is at our college hockey site, which has gathered a list of links for you to peruse.

The poll below is built on the #5-9 listings for North American and European skaters per the NHL's Central Scouting Rankings (minus guys I know that are already off the board). I think we'd all be stunned if the Preds took a goalie in the 1st round.

As an FYI, NHL.com has three mock drafts available for review. Adam Kimelman has the Preds picking Scott Glennie (as does Shane Malloy from TSN), Brad Holland has them selecting Jordan Schroeder, and Shawn P. Roarke goes with John Moore.

So chime in with a vote, or write up a FanPost (like this one) detailing who you think the Preds should draft and why. As a number of young players are expected to make an impact in Nashville this fall, it will be important for them to keep the pipeline stocked with talent...

How come no mention for Nazim Kadri?

I had to vote for Jordan Schroeder in this poll. No question about it. He’s a man among boys in comparision with others on that list. At 5’9/180 he’s a decent size, but it’s not size that matters. He looks like he could be a well rounded player, who plays offense and defense equally well.

Also, it’s a little sad that the Preds have the number 11 spot, and we didn’t have to trade to get it. :(

I just took the #5-9 skaters from Central Scouting’s North American and European listings, and Kadri ranked too highly. I doubt he’ll be available when the Preds pick. I don’t know if you can change your vote in the poll, but I’ll go ahead and add him.

More fun than a stick to the face!
