Scott Nichol signs with San Jose Sharks
The San Jose Sharks have signed center Scott Nichol, adding veteran depth to their changing lineup.
Nichol spent the past four seasons with the Nashville Predators, scoring 10 points in 43 games last season while missing extensive playing time with a concussion.
I understand that the Predators are heading forward with a youth movement on the 3rd and 4th lines, but Nichol will be missed. Just a personal note to share, my oldest son plays in a hockey program around town that includes the kids of some of the Preds players, and once the season was over, Nichol was out on the ice with them every week, helping them with their skating, etc.
You simply can't put a price on seeing the smile on my son's face as he would come off the ice, exclaiming "did you see Scott Nichol passing me the puck?"
Good luck, Scooter.

I was just going to send you an email and ask you what you thought of Nichol’s performance after his return from a concussion, and what you think he will bring to the Sharks 4th line and PK?
Doug Wilson recently praised defenseman Kent Huskins on local radio when asked about giving him a 2 year deal. He performed in more of a depth role in Anaheim, but judging from Wilson’s comments he is going to be given more of an opportunity in San Jose.
In Nichol and Huskins, the Sharks are hoping to add a dose of toughness and in your face attitude. Tight against the cap, a forward such as Michalek or Cheechoo might be on his way out, and with 7 NHL defenseman Ehrhoff or Lukowich could depart the blueline as well.
I think he could do pretty well in San Jose, doing some of the dirty work that sets up guys like Thornton and Marleau to succeed. You certainly won’t have to wonder about the effort level or intensity that he’ll bring each night.
More fun than a stick to the face!
On the Forecheck is SB Nation's blog covering the Nashville Predators.
Cya Nichol
I met Scott after a practice just after he returned from his concussion injury. I told him I was glad he had returned and he thanked me by signing my jersey. I’ll miss him. Good luck Nichol!
Adios Scooter!
Always could depend on his work ethic, speed and ability to not back down from anyone despite their size, Scooter was always fun to watch on the ice. Always a threat on the PK, with his share of shorthanded goals for the Preds, I’ll miss watching him play. Thanks for the years in Nashville!
