Mock trade offer submitted for Ilya Kovalchuk
Building upon our discussion from earlier this week, I tried to sum up the discussion and submitted the following offer to Bird Watchers Anonymous for a mock Ilya Kovalchuk trade:
Dan Hamhuis
Ryan Jones
Conditional pick (3rd, becoming a 2nd if Preds make the Western Conference final, and a 1st if they make the Stanley Cup finals this spring).

well
I stil think (top prospect) the Thrashers would want more, but thats a far sight better offer than some of the other SBNation ones that I’ve seen.

that's it?
i think they’d want much more than our castoffs.
I want some of what you are smoking if you think they would take that. If they would take that then I want some of what Don Waddel is smoking. Come to think of it, with his track record, I want some of his anyway.

Rest assured, I don’t believe such a package would swing such a deal. Probably the overwhelming sentiment in the discussion was that Kovalchuk brings a great deal of risk in terms of upsetting the chemistry of this team, not to mention his lack of defensive play.
When I forwarded it over to BWA, I told them that I knew it was underwhelming.
More fun than a stick to the face!

well
Kovalchuk’s defensive “skills” would get you demoted on a Trotz team, with good reason. I’d say that the discussion really points to the sentiment that we don’t actually want Kovalchuk. I’d way sooner go after a guy like Mikko Koivu or Mike Richards (not saying they’re available, just the type of player).
Will be interesting to see what the Kings/Bruins/Blackhawks sites come up with. I think the Hawks/Kovy rumors are BS, personally, but imagining a Kovalchuk-Toews-Kane/Hossa team makes me glad we’re done with them for the year.
