Nashville makes Music City rock with an impressive home opening effort.

Take a deep breath, Trotz and Co. Starting Wednesday, the Predators play 7 games in 11 days, including NHL powers Chicago, Washington, and Pittsburgh.

The Predators get off the mark with a solid 4-1 win over lowly Anaheim. An injury to starting netminder Pekka Rinne is a troubling development, although he's not expected to miss much, if any, playing time.

Veteran Steve Sullivan helped the Predators win their fifth opener in seven tries by collecting two points including the game winner in Nashville's 4-2 victory over the Ducks on Saturday night.

The Preds were snubbed in our preseason poll, selected in 9th, outside the playoff picture. In Week 1, they're right back in the mix, jumping nine spots to No. 3. How long will that last, however, with injuries to Pekka Rinne and Martin Erat, among others?

Nice...
but I’ll save the celebration for a few days (with wins over division rivals and the Caps). Also nice job Fox Sports, didn’t even get the score right. ;P
fox sports
They’re just being nice by doubleing the ducks goals for/game avg.

ESPN's rankings amuse me.
They very heavily take a couple initial games into account. For example, the Leafs went from 23 before the season to 4 now, Oilers from 29 to 6, Stars from 20 to 3, Pens from 7 to 27, and the Devils from 6 to 28. That just seems ridiculous to judge anything on a couple games. Maybe I’m just used to what seems to be a much more sound MLB ranking system that makes slight movements until more games prove their talent level. Oh well.
The updated rankings are roughly where I ranked the Preds before the season. Funny what an effect one game (against the Ducks, no less) can have.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains."
Notice "Yahoo" didn't update his. (Ross McKeon)
Didn’t return my email about the Preds being in 24th in his “power rankings”.
