Rene Bourque's OT winner lifts Calgary past Nashville, 1-0
The finest Finnish goaltending was on display tonight as Pekka Rinne and Miikka Kiprusoff dominated the contest between the Predators and Flames, which remained scoreless through regulation. Rene Bourque scored the game winner 2:10 into the extra session, ruining Rinne's 34-save effort in his return to the Nashville lineup. Kiprusoff had the same number en route to the shutout.

Sidney Crosby & the Pittsburgh Penguins come to town Thursday. Use this special offer for OtF readers to save money on Nashville Predators tickets for this, or any other home game this season.
- The injury to Ryan Suter is a huge concern if he has to miss much time. The Preds have another three games coming up through Sunday, so even a few days lost will have a large impact.
- Suter's loss was especially felt on the power play, which struggled often to set up possession. The Preds had 9:53 of total power play time, and went 0-for-5.
- Jerred Smithson did some surprisingly good work in the offensive end, drawing a penalty, almost scoring a goal, and generally using his boardwork to keep the play in the Calgary zone.
- As you can see in the table below, the Preds were pretty much outclassed across the board at even strength (outshot by Calgary 33-21 at evens). The line of Erat-Wilson-Dumont really took the brunt of it up front, which is what was feared with Colin moving back to center after starting this season on the wing.
- The good news, of course, is that the Preds pick up the loser point once again, so they've got 8 points for their 3-0-2 record. Coming up, they face a difficult 3-games-in-4-nights stretch starting Thursday vs. Pittsburgh, Saturday at Dallas, then Sunday at Tampa Bay.
- Cal O'Reilly and Jerred Smithson were both 73% on their faceoff wins, very impressive efforts. David Legwand went 3-for-10.
- You certainly couldn't pin this one on Pekka Rinne - he looked ready, willing & able to stop everything which came his way.
- I'm trying to find out why this game was blacked out locally, even for Center Ice subscribers. Typically, games not broadcast on Fox Sports TN are still available via the other team's feed on Center Ice.

What about Kevin Klein?
He looked really good out there and filled in nicely for Sutes. I’m still pissed that elbow wasn’t called on Franson, and that douche that hit him won’t probably get any disciplinary action.
That douche...
That douche was Cory Sarich, number 6. He was also the one who laid the knee on knee hit on Suter. He is one of the dirtiest players I have ever seen. He was a straight thug tonight. Also, Iginla slew footed Weber behind our goal tonight during the 1st period. There were no calls on any of those plays.
I thought Klein had one of his best games, especially on offense. He created several chances and put some good shots towards the net. However, the combination of him and Franson on 4 on 4 OT hockey was a huge mistake. They should never be paired together, even with Suter out. I think that is what cost us the game in the end.
One More thing...
Is anyone else fed up with J.P. Dumont and Martin Erat? The fact that Trotz just kept throwing them out there together was killing me. It was a waste of a shift every time it happened. We are paying those guys a ridiculous amount too.
erat
first game back from injury, and was rushed back into the lineup. trotz said in the post game that erat isn’t 100%. give him time before you start calling for his head.
"It's gonna be fun on the bun."
yeah
but that was mostly lucky timing on his part. his contract renewal came at a time when Poile was trying his hardest to get to the salary cap limit to qualify for revenue sharing. as well as it came right after the lockout so GM’s were still new to the system and were making some poor decisions. It also came after back to back 57 point years in 06-08. considering the last 2 seasons he has come within 7&8 points of his 57 point performances without playing with the level of talent he was with in 07, i think poile is getting what he paid for.
"It's gonna be fun on the bun."
I'm not the only one...
I have seen countless articles like this one. Legwand is at least good at defense.
but i have faith that Poile signed him to the contract he did for a reason. btw that article also mentions “the Sedins” as being over paid and “second tier offensive players”. the Art Ross trophy is now for 2nd tier offensive players.
point being GM’s have their reasons, but fans/writers will always have their opinions. i just don’t like it when people are really harsh on players, especially their contracts. it’s not the players fault, a lot of the time, that he is “over paid”
"It's gonna be fun on the bun."
How much a team spends has nothing to do with qualifying for revenue sharing.
Poile was simply trying to lock up a core player for a long time when he signed Erat, and had the market continued to rise (as it had for the 2-3 years leading up to that point), it wouldn’t stick out like it does now. As the economy turned sour and growth in the salary cap ground to a halt, however, it has looked worse and worse.

Another game, two more malicious hits
You can’t really blame Cory Sarich. NHL referees allow knee-to-knee hits and hands-to-head hits like his. Tonight’s exhibition at Bridgestone Arena was absolutely sickening.

On the bright side is our goaltending
Pekka was, well, Pekka. No rust at all and just picked up where he left off. He kept us in the game and got us the point. If the worn out 5 man defense could have gotten him to a shootout, he’d have gotten the second point. I see a number of shutout wins coming our way this year.
And then there’s Lindy. How funny was his appearance on the big screen as part of the “hot stat” segment? The sheepish grin and crowd acknowledging wave with the blocker were priceless!! Gotta love that kid.
Regarding Erat and Dumont
Here is a better list I found. It also mentions Arnott. On the bright side, none of our D men or goalies are on the list.
