Nashville Predators Fantasy Hockey Update

Photo

As their team offense has sunk to a 28th-best 2.36 Goals per Game, you may be tempted to bench all Nashville Predators from your fantasy hockey rosters. While understandable, there are still some guys worth keeping in your lineup, and ahead of a busy weekend of NHL action, here's your regular update on the key Preds...

J.P. Dumont

#71 / Right Wing / Nashville Predators

6-1

Apr 01, 1978

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - J.P. Dumont 11 1 4 5 5 8 0 0 0 23

His ice time is starting to creep up a little bit due to all the injuries the Preds are fighting through, but the results just aren't showing up. He still ends up spending too much time alongside pluggers on a checking line. Status: Caution (ice time)

Martin Erat

#10 / Left Wing / Nashville Predators

6-0

200

Aug 29, 1981

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Martin Erat 7 0 3 3 -2 8 0 0 0 13

He didn't travel with the team out west, so the earliest he's expected to play is next Thursday at St. Louis. Status: Out of the Lineup

Patric Hornqvist

#27 / Right Wing / Nashville Predators

5-11

Jan 01, 1987

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Patric Hornqvist 11 4 1 5 -3 2 2 0 1 35

He's getting all the prime opportunities and is putting shots on net, scoring at roughly a 30-goal pace. Don't expect many assists, however, given the team's overall lack of scoring. Status: Good To Go

David Legwand

#11 / Center / Nashville Predators

6-2

204

Aug 17, 1980

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - David Legwand 11 2 3 5 -2 8 0 0 0 24

After an encouraging start, the points have dried up with three straight scoreless games. Again, a good part of this is due to his workload, which involves taking on the other team's top forwards. A 40-point season is probably on the way here. Status: Caution

Matthew Lombardi

#15 / Center / Nashville Predators

5-11

Mar 18, 1982

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Matthew Lombardi 2 0 0 0 -1 0 0 0 0 6

He's out "indefinitely" due to a concussion suffered in the second game of the season. Hopefully your hockey pool has an Injured Reserve where you can stash him, because he isn't likely to play for quite a while. Status: Out of the Lineup

Cal O`Reilly

#16 / Center / Nashville Predators

6-0

187

Sep 30, 1986

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Cal O`Reilly 11 1 7 8 -1 0 0 0 1 14

Cal is still racking up some assists on the Preds' lone scoring line, but appears overly-hesitant to shoot the puck. Somebody tell him that a shot is like a "bank pass off the goalie" to Hornqvist, and perhaps he'll get there. Especially due to Lombardi's absence, however, he's a reliable offensive contributor. Status: Good To Go

Pekka Rinne

#35 / Goalie / Nashville Predators

6-5

207

Nov 03, 1982

GP MIN W L EGA GA GAA SA SV SV% SO
2010 - Pekka Rinne 7 407 2 3 18 2.65 223 205 .919 1

Winless in his last three, Pekka faces the first major test of the 2010-11 season. There's no threat to his status as #1, but it will be interesting to see how he rebounds from a poor effort at Phoenix last night. Given the back-to-back games this weekend, it wouldn't be surprising to see Anders Lindback get one of those starts (most likely Anaheim on Sunday). Status: Good To Go

Steve Sullivan

#26 / Left Wing / Nashville Predators

5-8

161

Jul 06, 1974

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Steve Sullivan 11 4 3 7 -1 6 2 0 1 28

Sully is in the mix with O'Reilly and Hornqvist, and is getting his chances lately but not scoring. Sooner or later, those breakaways will start to pay off, so don't hesitate to use him. Status: Good To Go

Ryan Suter

#20 / Defenseman / Nashville Predators

6-1

198

Jan 21, 1985

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Ryan Suter 5 0 3 3 3 4 0 0 0 7

He's in the same boat as Martin Erat, he won't play this weekend but we can hope for next Thursday at St. Louis. Status: Out of the Lineup

Shea Weber

#6 / Defenseman / Nashville Predators

6-4

234

Aug 14, 1985

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Shea Weber 11 1 5 6 -4 8 0 0 0 27

Suter's absence is dragging him down (-5 over the last 3 games), but he's still the main option on the blueline and the power play. Status: Good To Go

Colin Wilson

#33 / Center / Nashville Predators

6-1

214

Oct 20, 1989

GP G A P +/- PIM PPG SHG GWG GTG SOG PCT
2010 - Colin Wilson 11 2 4 6 5 0 0 0 1 18

He got a season-high 18:40 of ice time Wednesday at Phoenix, and was promoted to the first power play unit where he set up nicely for a shot which led to a Patric Hornqvist goal. A healthy increase in offensive opportunities could make him a useful depth contributor to your fantasy hockey lineup. Status: Good To Go

I notice that Dumont Tootoo and Wilson are the only "+" forwards we have right now.

Goc is too, but he’s been out during “the descent”.

Why again are they all getting limited ice time?

Matchups

Currently the Legwand/Ward line is paired up against the other team’s top lines, then the Sullivan-O’Reilly-Hornqvist line is a priority. Everything else gets filled in, and when penalties break up the flow of the game, those 3rd & 4th lines lose out.

At least with Wilson, it was interesting to see him moved to the 1st PP unit last night, where he seemed to fare pretty well. My guess with him is that Trotz is bringing him along slowly rather than tossing him into 20 minute-status against Top Six foes.

Slowly...

…cause that’s worked so well for him and the team so far this year? Get him in there to start scoring some goals!

I’m just irritated by the wasted talent we have.
