Mo-nday's notes: Focus on the future

Yes, Preds fans, things don't look particularly good right now, with the team slogging through a 5-game losing streak and a 1st-round draft pick who can't seem to get his game rolling, even at the ECHL level. But not all is lost. So, after you check out the latest Movember update, stroll through your morning hockey news and try to cheer yourself up.

After all, we've got forwards down in junior popping in lots of goals, a defensive duo in Milwaukee that is turning heads, and a dipsy-doodler who's looking for another chance at NHL glory...

Déjà Vu All Over Again? " Pull My (Fang)Finger
AJ writes about how we've been down this "early season losing streak" road before. The strange coincidence here is that last night, I actually had a major sense of Déjà Vu during the game, reflecting back on a previous injury-riddled Preds team that went into Anaheim and competed hard, with J.P. Dumont getting lots of chances. I need to go back and look through old game recaps, because it was really eerie.

Around the NHL

Taylor Hall blog creating sparks - The Globe and Mail
Did Taylor Hall "demand" to wear #4 in Edmonton, showing a lack of respect for Kevin Lowe? A bit of a kerfuffle arose last week when a blog written by an NHL scout suggested just that.

Relocate The Chicago Blackhawks? Not So Far-Fetched Just Four Years Ago. - The Copper & Blue
Derek Zona proposes that lousy management might be the main cause of attendance problems with some NHL teams, just as we saw with Chicago. In the case of Phoenix I'd probably disagree a bit due to the arena issues, which are forcing the City of Glendale to make some huge concessions in order to keep the Coyotes in town.

Injury Updates?

When can we expect some news on Suter and Erat? Getting them back for Thursday would be huge.

I remember hearing Lombardi is going to be looked at on Tuesday? What is his time frame for return?

The Preds have today off, so look for reports out of tomorrow’s practice as to whether Erat or Suter skate.

There is no time frame for Lombardi’s return, it’s indefinite. With concussions, they just have to wait until symptoms go away and he can pass his baseline tests before he practices, and even once he practices, they keep monitoring to make sure symptoms don’t return and he can still pass those baseline tests.

I have no inside scoop here, but just going off previous experience watching such things, I would speculate that he won’t play for at least the rest of this month.

you know

we have always had what i would call a " blue collar team" not fancy but somehow gets the job done. i still believe in our boy’s and really believe we will start to turn things around. we just need to get our confidence back. at least thats my 2 cents.

One thing I noticed lacking on the road trip

No physical play. I remember very few big hits, scrums, altercations of any kind in the last few games. It seems this team is thinking too much and not just going out and playing instinctively. Need to get back to basics in practice this week and then go out fierce against the Blues.

I believe the same thing happened last season, and the one before that, and before that……

Too many injuries to too many leaders threw their game off. They will get it back. The season is very young and the games many more. not to worry :)))
