Pekka Rinne out 2-4 weeks, Nashville Predators recall Mark Dekanich
UPDATE: Bryan Mullen of The Tennessean quotes a Preds official as saying Pekka will be out 2-4 weeks.
From the Nashville Predators:
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Mark Dekanich from Milwaukee (AHL).
Dekanich, 24 (5/10/86), will be making his second 2010-11 appearance with the Predators - he backed up rookie netminder Anders Lindback for three games during a five-day recall to Nashville from Oct. 12-17. The North Vancouver, B.C., native has posted three shutouts in his last eight starts for the Admirals, and recently set a franchise record with a 209:31 shutout streak from Nov. 7-18. Nashville's third choice (146th overall) in the 2006 Entry Draft is ranked second in the League in shutouts (3) and wins (tie, 10), in addition to fourth in save percentage (.941) and goals-against average (1.71).
Dex has been absolutely tearing it up for Milwaukee, and according to Pekka Rinne's agent Jay Grossman, there's a hole to fill:
Obviously this is a big blow to the Preds, as Pekka has played well lately, with a .943 save percentage and two shutouts in his last eight starts.
Over on 104.5 The Zone's Facebook page, Willy Daunic provides word from Barry Trotz that Rinne's injury is unrelated to the one suffered in the season-opener against Anaheim.

This is weird. Peks has been fantastic lately, showing no sign of injury at all.
But good for Dex. He deserves this.
There had been a little discussion that perhaps the leg injury from earlier this year was still causing issues, so that could play a role. It could be anything, though, really. And unfortunately, in today’s NHL, we’ll probably never hear exactly what it is. Unlike the NFL, where stuff like this provides a good portion of the fodder for sports radio.

Right, and I’d probably buy that, its just that he’s been so good I didn’t think that a lingering injury would be possible at his current level of performance.
If it is that injury, though, I worry that playing on it caused further damage and some sort of procedure will be required, thus leaving us without a franchise goalie for quite some time.

What a way
To start the weekend. I gotta agree with Chris, he’s been looking great lately – If the injury was off ice, does it follow the same guidelines for being reported – or rather, specifics are not reported? Linback and Dex should be fine – I’m sure the team will rally around them as before.
clots?
didn’t Rinne struggle with some blood clots in his leg at one point? i hope that isn’t the injury they are referring too….

I think you’re remembering Tomas Vokoun, who dealt with a blood clotting issue in the 06-07 playoffs and had to hand the reins to Chris Mason.

Maybe the silver lining to this whole thing will be Pickard finding his game again?
Or is that wishful thinking? LOL!

Sometimes I feel like it's pulling teeth to get injury info from the Preds
On 104.5 today they said it was a knee injury, something that I’ve got personal experience with. If you bend the joint unnaturally you can do some serious damage; in lesser instances it just becomes “loose” and your kneecap can get “out of joint.” Talk about painful! You can push it back into place and immediately it feels better but ultimately you have to rehab it and everything tightens back up and within a year you’re pretty much back to normal. Since going through that I’ve also lost a lot of the meniscus that insulates the bones from rubbing against one another; we rehabbed that too but eventually I’ll have to have that knee replaced.
My sense is that Rinne’s injury is not the kind of stuff I’ve been through; if he tore something they’d IR him for the year. More than likely the joint is just loose and needs to be strengthened. In any case we are now testing our organizational strength – goaltending is our strong suit so let’s see what Anders and Mark can do! I’m really rooting for these guys.

a few odd thoughts
I can’t remember ever having this many injuries in a season. Much less this early.
All these injuries, and shea weber has caused a single one of them.

Nope, but Franson...
Originally took out Kostitsyn on the final shift of the final practice in training camp and also has put referee Gord Dwyer on the sidelines for 4-6 weeks after hitting him in the side of the face in Columbus earlier this week!
Maybe Franson got crap back in the neighborhood last summer and is doing his best to pile up the collateral damage???

After The Columbus Game.....
.I got to go down to the dressing room area. I saw Pekka noticeably limping and this was less than 30 minutes after his winning effort in the shootout. I thought “How could he be walking so bad after playing so good?” Our seats were in the Columbus twice attack zone, so I was concentrating on our boy. I did not see anything except an effort from Renne that had the Blue Jackets fans heaping praise on him. Didn’t notice anything in the celebration either. He was really limping! Strange!
