Monday's news: Hockey mom turns Twitter habit into NHL job

Even if you're not on Twitter, you may have heard about how active the NHL community is in social media (if you are on Twitter, you can follow me at @Forechecker). Last spring, for example, there were a series of "NHL Tweetups" that encouraged hockey fans who use Twitter to meet up on the first night of the NHL playoffs. The gathering here in Nashville was one of the largest in North America (with roughly 100 people), and helped sooth the wounds of Predators fans whose team had just missed the postseason.

The big news this morning is that the lady who started the "NHL Tweetup" movement, Dani Muccio, has been hired by an NHL team to coordinate their social media efforts. We've got that, and a whole lot more, in your morning news and notes below...

But first, this note:

SB Nation is conducting a survey to learn more about our readers, and I'd appreciate your completing it. The blog which has the highest portion of its membership fill out the survey gets $500 to donate to the charity of its choice. Can we raise $500 for perhaps the Predators Foundation, folks?

Postgame ponderings - Predators Insider
John Glennon muses that if Joel Ward needs to miss any game time, Andreas Thuresson might be the likely callup from Milwaukee. I'd go for Nick Spaling myself for more help on the PK, but I was impressed by Thuresson when he was with the Preds earlier this season.

While we're basking in the glow of yesterday's victory, check out the way Shea Weber deposited Patrik Berglund into the Blues' bench:

Yikes

Webby needs to watch those skates – they flew up into his face when Berglund went over! Richard Zednik, anyone?

Brittanie / NY Post

- I had not thought about the young lady in Columbus that got hit by a puck, and died later, in a long time. That is one of the saddest stories I’ve ever read.

- That NY post article should get the “dumbest article of the year” award. What games has he been watching? Obviously not the same ones the rest of us have. The Post is a borderline tabloid type of paper anyway, it’s not worth taking seriously.
