NHL's new head-shot rule in effect immediately

Stay connected for news and updates

Puck Daddy has all the details, but the big news heading into tonight's Coyotes vs. Predators game in Nashville is that the NHL's new rule against blind-side hits to the heat has been ratified, and is in effect immediately. For the remainder of this season (and the playoffs), such hits are eligible for review by the league for "supplemental discipline" (read: fines and/or suspensions), and actual on-ice penalties like a 2-minute or 5-minute penalty won't be in place until next season.

This video demonstrates what amounts to an illegal vs. legal hit under the new rule, and is well worth a few minutes of your time:
