Adopt a dog, then cheer on the Preds
The Nashville Predators are hosting a very special event tomorrow afternoon before their game against the Detroit Red Wings. Starting at 4:30 on the plaza outside Bridgestone Arena, several dogs from the Nashville Humane Society and New Leash On Life will be available for adoption. Each person adopting a pet will also receive a prize pack courtesy of PEDIGREE, thanks to Mars Petcare which is sponsoring the event. You'll fill out all the paperwork at the arena, and pick up your new dog the next day.
While we're on the topic of hockey fans and dog lovers, I wanted to point out one of my favorite blogs, Black Dog Hates Skunks. There's just dynamite insight on the Edmonton Oilers, mixed with concern for the author's aging dog. Just reading his post today made me think back to two years ago at this time, when we lost a member of our family.
We adopted good old Ozzy from an animal shelter, just as we did his successors, Scout & Indy. So take a moment and consider whether adopting a dog might make your home a warmer place. Jim Diamond's post features a showcase of some of the dogs which will be available Saturday afternoon.

Awesome event. Simply awesome. If I were in Nashville, my bet is I leave with 50 or so new dogs.
Here’s a question… what happens to the dog while I am at the game? Does it come in with me? Do I pick it up after the game? (Not me, per se, but someone who is going to the game)
While my first guess would be that they’d start potty-training in the Red Wings’ dressing room, the word I have from the team instead is that people fill out all the paperwork and pick up the dog the next day.
More fun than a stick to the face!
On the Forecheck is SB Nation's blog covering the Nashville Predators.
zing!
Nice one. I would consider it; but I’ve got an awesome dog.
On the Forecheck: a blog that's more productive than a Predator power play!

No way that would work for us...
the cats who own our house would never agree. (And these were either shelter cats, or would have been had they not adopted us privately.)
Do what we do
All three rescued dogs in our house hear each and every Predators home game on the radio or TV while we’re at the Bridge. Keeps them company and I’m sure that, if they could, they would tell me that the Preds should stop passing up shots and take a whack at the net once in a while, for crying out loud. I meant to set the video camera last night so I could see if they react to Crispy when he does his howling Coy-OOO-tees routine. Try it.

I wish I was in a position to adopt one
But the dog I have is awesome, so I’ll be happy with her until I get my own place
