So far we don’t have much in the way of things to report. Greg Wyshynski said the Devils are in on DH, but I don’t know how much he actually knows.

I read where Larry Brooks said the Rangers are after Hamhuis, too, but who knows really. Have to beware the posturing and purposeful BS this time of year.

I doubt Ellis will be traded, given the fact that other goalies are on the market as well and the Preds will likely need him over the course of the next few weeks.

Beat me to the punch, and I could’ve left out the “Dirk may feel differently”.

Better late than never!

I don’t (Dirk may feel differently) because its the age-old problem of him being worth more to us than he is to someone else.

The only viable option is Philly, and they don’t want to give up any young scoring. Neither of our AHL goalies are ready for prime-time, so if we didn’t get a goalie back it’d be trouble.

classic hamhuis…made me nostalgic
only for the right return…

by Sam Page on Mar 3, 2010 10:06 AM EST up reply actions

I will NOT miss Hamhuis when he is gone. How could I miss him taking the puck behind his own net only to get pressured and turn it over every other shift. Maybe if he unleased a good hip check more than once a season…maybe…I will take my chances with someone who 1. has not maxed out on potential 2. Has more offensive upside 3. Has more defensive upside!!

I agree 100% I almost have a heart attack everytime he has the puck behind the net.

Bruce Garrioch is reporting Derek Morris to Phoenix

It will be interesting to see what the return is. Most top-four D traded lately have been for 2nd-round picks.

I have to wonder if Poile is waiting out the market on Hamhuis, as the available options on the market get fewer and fewer, the remaining buyers will need to up the ante.

McKenzie confirmed it

I trust Poile in this situation—he’s only going to deal if it makes us better, not move just to make a move.

Dirk, would you say Hamhuis is worth a first (theoretically speaking, in a draft-pick only scenario)? He’s significantly better than the defensemen traded thus far.

McKenzie/Dreger reporting

That Phoenix is sending merely a 4th rounder for Derek Morris. Granted, Hamhuis is a better player than he is but I gotta wonder if this shifts the price.

He's the cream of the D crop

But they’ve said publicly (and I’d believe) that they’re not going to just trade him for a pick. It’s got to be a deal that helps the team this year. It’s going to be very difficult to pull something like that off, however. The teams that have forwards to offer are out of the playoff hunt, and wouldn’t need Hamhuis as a rental.

Nobody, but I’m struggling with why we waived him and not Belak. Tootoo and Weber can take care of the problems we have on the ice, and if the other team ices an enforcer, that means we have an advantage in being able to roll 4 lines.

Trotz has a long-standing preference for dressing an enforcer when the other team does, so Belak isn’t going anywhere, even if he only plays a handful of games down the stretch.

Adrian Dater writing about this possibility last night:
What do I think? I think trading Wolski isn’t the most outlandish idea in the world, but if I’m the Avalanche, I’m scared to death of only getting a Peter Mueller for him. Yeah, this guy had some good numbers his rookie year, but, no exaggeration, he’s been AWFUL since. Wolski’s numbers look like Gordie Howe’s next to this guy. I don’t like getting "Guy Trying To Live Up To Previous Potential" guys. They almost never live up to their previous potential. It always seems to be one long downward spiral for the once-promising guy, who leaves a bunch of disappointed teams in his wake. Think Bryan Fogarty. Think Alexander Daigle. Think Michael Ryder. Think Jeff Jillson and whole bunch of other guys.

An odd move for Colorado.
