Ryan Jones claimed off waivers by Edmonton

TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that Ryan Jones has been claimed off waivers by the Edmonton Oilers. Jones, as was noted yesterday, has had trouble earning a consistent spot in the Nashville lineup since signing a two-year, one-way contract for $975,000 per year over the summer.

He was originally acquired by the Preds along with a 2nd-round draft pick (that became Charles-Olivier Roussel) in the Marek Zidlicky trade in 2008.

And no, I don't believe for a minute that we're looking at another Rich Peverley situation here.

You just knew that someone would pick him up......

Jonesy could never quite work himself into a steady position. He has showed a bit of promise and has potential to be a good player in the future, given the right opportunity. I don’t see this as another “Rich Peverley” situation, either. Best of luck to you, Jonesy.

A big factor here is that he turns 26 this summer. With forwards, you usually know what you’re working with by then.

More fun than a stick to the face!

Why didn't they roll him in to the Edmonton deal.....

since he wound up there anyway? A little strange how that worked out.

I think it’s probably safe to assume that Poile shopped Jones around and found no takers. Edmonton, being 30th in the league, knew they had 1st dibs on him if he hit waivers.

just heard...

Scotty Walker goes to the Caps. He’s gotta be digging that! I’m still a big fan of his after all these years.

Refresh my memory...

…but didn’t Jones had some injuries early this season. I know he was good to have last season..
