Friday fun: Once and future Preds lighting it up
We're getting close to wrapping up the NHL regular season, and for the Nashville Predators, we still don't know which team they'll face in the first round of the playoffs. It didn't help to see Los Angeles earn a point by taking the Phoenix Coyotes to a shootout last night, as we now have a 3-way tie at 98 points between the Preds, Kings, and Red Wings. The problem is that the other two teams have an extra game to play.
Ah, well - after the jump we have reports on both a former and future Predator doing well in playoff action, a prominent hockey columnist touting Barry Trotz as a Coach of the Year finalist, and a look back at a good old fashioned bench-clearing brawl...

About that attendance thing… | All Things Avs
Adrian Dater has chronicled Colorado's attendance problems all season, as they finished 27th in the league, and addresses how awkward it is for a sportswriter to bring up the issue. I guess that early column saying that Nashville should just "get the heck out of the NHL" really blew up in his face, didn't it?

The Dater Fiasco
I read through the Adrian Dater article you linked, as well as about a third of the comments. His bombastic style — even his credibility — is being seriously questioned by his own readership. Quite enjoyable to see him squirm in his own juices over a situation he alone created.
Even more delightfully ironic, in view of that original shot at Nashville he took at the outset this season is the fact that the Avs likely won’t even qualify for a full share of revenue sharing with their sub-14k average attendance this season, whereas Nashville has never missed that figure since it was established as a requirement. However it’s not like they need the money — Stan Kronke has buckets of it; still, it’s rather amusing how things turned out.
I harbor no ill will toward Colorado, but hopefully Dater has learned his lesson…but I seriously doubt it.
It’s totally unnecessary for writers like him to take pot-shots at other teams, I remember his “get out of Nashville” comment…. my response to him would be…. It doesn’t do you, me, us , or anyone any good. It’s bad for your team, bad for our team, and bad for the league. Us Nashville fans would never say to ATL or PHX or COL that they should “get out”, because we have suffered the same persecutions and know better. You say “get out”, and I say “I hope you (and everyone) stays”.

I guess rumor and personal biases are much easier than actual research and reporting. I wish I had kept all the articles from the beginning of the season that projected Nashville at the bottom of league. And then I’d like to send it to the original author(s) and tell them to stick it you know where. Ross McKeon, you’re included; 29th my bum.

By the way,
Espn.com has the Preds average attendance listed at 14,936 through 40 games. Outside of being a nice round number, is it important for us to hit the 15,000 mark this season?
Hopefully not!
We’d need to have 17,560 attend the last game to achieve a 15,000 average, which is more than capacity.
