Blake Geoffrion to sign with Nashville Predators at local elementary school
What better way to celebrate the contract signing of Nashville's first home-grown prospect than by conducting the press conference at his old elementary school? This came from Blake Geoffrion via Twitter today:
Its true I am signing a two year deal with the Predators. Press conference will be at my elementry school in brentwood, which is Granberry Elementry everyone is welcome to come. Hope to see a lot of preds fans there its at 2 o'clock on tuesday the 15th.
UPDATE: Based on the subsequent deletion of those tweets and word from the team, the signing is meant to be more of a press conference than a public, open event. I don't think they're prepared to handle a wave of Predators fans attending!
This is a nice touch by Blake and the team, marking a real milestone for the Nashville hockey community.

Great News
We have been waiting for news on Blake since he won the Hobey Baker award. Glad he has given a nod to the home team for at least 2 yrs.
Will he play in Nashville next year?

I would doubt it, especially at first. Besides the speed and skill of the NHL as opposed to the NCAA, it’s an entirely different routine and schedule. In college, you practice all week and play games on Friday & Saturday night. I’d wager that the Preds would want him to acclimate to the pro schedule in Milwaukee for at least a couple months if not an entire season.

He had just a few days with them in the playoffs, nothing significant.

I’d agree with this, and add that I think he does very well in Milwaukee. He was (evidenced by the awards) completely dominating everyone in college. We saw what Wilson did once he got acclimated to the pro game, I expect Geoffrion to do the same.
He’s already 22, so I doubt he progresses much further physically. It’ll just be a matter of adjusting to the pace.

I agree Chris, wasting one year of his two-year contract in Milwaukee is kinda stupid. Think of the extra money brought in when the local star is playing here for the home team, I know probably Poile is…
You’re right, they are gone… strange.
Maybe he wasn’t supposed to leak things out quite yet?

Congrats PredsNation, looks like you got a Class-A guy. I love the location of the signing. Talk about growing the sport!
Great news!
At last, something comes along to relieve my recurring nightmare over Erat’s last-second giveaway. Here’s to a new morning in Nashville.

Blake deleted the tweets after the fact, which leads me to believe that he wasn’t supposed to open up a public invitation to the signing. It sounds like it’s still going to happen, just as a press conference rather than an open, public event.
