Denis Grebeshkov Likely Gone
Not that this was unexpected but according to GM David Poile, Denis Grebeshkov is probably not going to be retained by the Nashville Predators. On Monday's Wake Up Zone on 104.5 Poile implied that Grebeshkov's $3.1 million salary made it difficult to bring him back. Poile also expressed excitement about Swedish Swiss prospect Roman Josi, a very offensive-minded defenseman who lit it up with Bern SC. Check out Josi's highlight video here.

This is the correct move by Poile. Grebeshkov was overpaid for what he brought to the table. I think a lot of Preds fans were excited about him because he put up points in his very few games here, but no one in Edmonton is crying about the lack of give aways due to him. If he was under $2M I wouldn’t mind Poile bringing him back, but not for over $3.1M. He’d essentially be an overpaid Andy Delmore.

Agree that he’s probably overpaid and this is the right move, but the Delmore comparison isn’t accurate. Grebs is an average defender that takes some risks, is a good skater, great passer and has an above average shot. We caught glimpses of all of that and it’ll get him $3M somewhere. Delmore had a great shot and was below average everywhere else. That image brings up some terrible memories, though.
Andy Delmore! It’s taken seven years to get that picture out of my mind and now you’ve brought it back.

Please, please, please… Roman Josi is Swiss, not Swedish. You guys should make the difference between Sweden (Forsberg, Hornqvist) and Switzerland (Streit, Hiller, Gerber).
Too funny, I just zipped right on by that when I read it. I’ll make the correction.
More fun than a stick to the face!
On the Forecheck is SB Nation's blog covering the Nashville Predators.
I couldn’t remember when I wrote it and realized the error a few hours later. Sorry for the misprint. Thanks for fixing it, Dirk.
If I hit a hole-in-one on this grand slam the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.
