Darren Dreger: Preds looking to trade Grebeshkov
In an interesting contrast to the Dan Hamhuis situation, TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting that the Preds have given Denis Grebeshkov's agent permission to talk to other teams, in order to facilitate a trade before he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

I'm confused
Didn’t Poile REFUSE to let other teams talk to Hamhuis in order to facilitate a trade? Isn’t this the exact opposite?
Oh man
I’m really sorry. You clearly noted that contrast right off the bat. I need to read more carefully!
But anyway, why would one strategy work for one guy and the opposite work for another?
The difference here is that there was demand out there to negotiate with Hamhuis.
With Grebeshkov, if a team took him on before July 1 and wanted to avoid letting him become an unrestricted free agent, they’d need to match his $3.15 million contract from last season. The general feeling is that if he hits the open market, he’ll pull in less than that, so teams have no reason to trade for him now.
More fun than a stick to the face!

This seems foolhardy, to me. Why pay trade an asset to get him now and qualify him at overpayment when you can wait a few days?
