Predator Predicitions/Western Conference Predictions

Hello Preds fans,

I was wondering what you guys/girls think of the our Predators next season. In other words, what are your predictions for the 2010/2011 regular season, and playoffs.

Also, what do you think about the rest of the western conference? I am going to post my prediction of the western conference standings, and the Nashville Predators.

PREDICTED WESTERN CONFERENCE STANDINGS

1. SAN JOSE*

2. VANCOUVER*

3. DETROIT*

4. CHICAGO

5. LOS ANGELES

6. PHOENIX

7. NASHVILLE

8. ANAHEIM

9. CALGARY

10. COLORADO

11. ST LOUIS

12.  DALLAS

13. MINNESOTA

14. COLUMBUS

15. EDMONTON

You must be thinking the bottom four seeds are identical as last year...well there hasn't been much improvement in any of those teams. Edmonton's team did change but it didn't get any better. They are looking to free up more spots for a younger team. Yeah, they might be a fast team but that has nothing to prove with scoring touch, defense, or goaltending.  Actually...who are they going to put in net? Nik Khabibulin? The guy that has pretty much lost his career as he is not the same anymore, and he has the injury flu. They have absoloutley nothing to back him up. You might be thinking Dubnyk, or JD. No way. My intention is not to use those goaltenders in a minor role but you gotta look at stats...They might have been better if there was a better defence in front of him.

St. Louis is sitting in the 11th seed in my predictions. The main reason for that is that Anaheim must make the playoffs this year. They still have a cup winning team but nothing went right last season. I really think the Ducks can pull it together this season.

Along with the Ducks, Colorado and Calgary can very well be ahead of St. Louis as well. Last season the Avs were great. They will probably be even better this season but something tells me they cant pull off to get into the playoffs. Probably the affect from Anaheim is the conundrum in this situation.

Time to get to SMASHVILLE. Listed at 7th place...I'm guessing that's pretty accurate, They've made the playoffs five times out of six, and they have been in the top three four teams after the lockout. (San Jose, Detroit, New Jersey). Nashville will make a playoff spot most likely, but I'm guessing they won't do it with 100 points again this season. I'm guessing around 95 points will do the trick for them this season.

Phoenix, LA, two teams unexpected last season, and did their spark, I predict it will continue on into this season. Especially with Phoenix since Dave Tippet is still coaching them.

Onto Chicago and Detroit. You might be wondering why I have placed Detroit over Chicago for the Central Division title. Well Detroit will be kicking themselves from last season. I am about 80% confident Babcock will lead Detroit to another division title, due to his rally skills as a coach. They also are an experienced team which gives them a huge advantage.

In addition, Chicago has given up too much...main players up front are Kane and Toews. The can still play back at D but Chicago needs to understand hockey isn't all about having super stars score goals. That is not how you win games.

Vancouver had some standout players last year, and will improve this season...My prediction may be accurate, but at the same time it could be a complete flop.

As for San Jose...I think we can all guarantee San Jose first in the west, right?

Hope you can post your predictions, and comments to this post.

Good stuff to keep us busy here in August!

The glaring difference I’d have is on Anaheim. The Stanley Cup-winning defense has been gutted, and they’re going to be pretty terrible.

Phoenix will be an interesting situation as well. They’ll miss Matt Lombardi.

offense

If they can pull a defense together this off-season they should be playing well. (Anaheim). Their offense looks unstoppable when you look at it on a sheet. Three players at the top of my head, Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan. Bobby has plenty of years to reach his prime.

hmm

Looks interesting…Phoenix possible slump…you never know. Some teams are one hit wonders once in 5 or 10 years. I don’t know how they pull it together…I guess you could just say, they’re a team like Nashville with a good coach working with all he’s got. PHX at 11th is very interesting to hear about

Well, they lost Lombardi, their #1 scorer is still a free agent AFAIK. If they don’t bring him back, I don’t think they are going much of anywhere this year. Remember, they won a lot of games in the shootout. If they can’t even get there, expect about 15-20 more losses.

Close to my guess

i think vancouver will be the 1 seed, phoenix and anaheim the most likely of your top 8 to fail to be there, but both are quite possible. colorado could surpass one of them. i hope we are in the 6 spot, maybe 5 if the kings arent quite as good.

PHX had a lot of shootout luck this season and Bryz played out of his mind. Either of those changes and they’re likely coming back to earth, especially since Michalek signed elsewhere. No one to drag Jovo around the ice anymore.

Only YOU can prevent idiots from commenting!

Western Conference

I think Anaheim is the least likely of your list to make the playoffs this year unless they do something about their tattered defense. They have to be looking at bringing in some help there, or they aren’t going to do anything consistent enough to make the playoffs.

The Kings are interesting, and if they place one or two more pieces, they could well be on their way to a deep cup run.

San Jose… well, we’ll see how they do yet again… they will make the playoffs, but I’m hoping that they will be dethroned as the Presidents Cup winner. No guarantee there.

Detroit will be another wild card this year, making the playoffs, and depending on how injury free they are heading into the playoffs will make it to the second round.

Chicago has had a garage sale, but has plugged in pieces to fill some of those holes. We’ll see how they do, but they have kept the core of their team, and I don’t expect them to fall too far.

Vancouver is too armed and ready for a deeper cup run and without Chicago in top shape to stop them, and I foresee them making the western conference finals this year.

I’m not sure Calgary will do very well this season, possibly ending the mismanagement of the Sutter bro’s.

Not sure where the Blues will rank this season, and they have some interesting pieces. Young talent, and playoff winning goalie. Wonder if Halak was a flash in the pan or the real deal. We’ll see this year, where I put St. Louis on the bubble of making or missing the playoffs.

The Wild are another ‘wild’ card for me. They added some success last season a little late and just barely were edged out of the playoffs again. Possibly more of the same this year.

Dallas, Edmonton, are my bottom feeders again this year. Dallas because of being broke, possibly sold, and no pieces in place to turn it around this year. Edmonton because having one excellent unproven rookie making the team is hardly a recipe for a turnaround. That and the possible outrage of Edmonton taxpayers about the new arena proposal when the public wakes up and learns they are supposed to pay 300 million with no additional potential profit to fill the city’s coffers.

I’d personally like to see the Coyotes succeed with Tippet at the helm again this year. Especially with Nashville also being called a “non-traditional hockey market.” Like Colorado, both of these teams have potential, but I’m not confident that it will happen like it did last year.

Columbus is a team that I constantly also wish success for, and it seems to elude them every year, despite some of the strong pieces they have in place. They need Nash to step it up and be consistent, and maybe they should look at bringing in another possible piece to help him. I’d suggest Lee Stepniak, but he also plays right wing.

I save the best, or my favorite, for last. Nashville, who has some great young talent, some veteran leadership, and is moving into a new era with a new captain at the helm. I want to feel confident about making the playoffs, (and believe we absolutely will) but I remember that we are doing an excellent job about growing our talent ‘the right way’. My goal has been a deeper run in the playoffs, and despite looking at an excellent team this year, I don’t want to disappoint myself by setting those expectations. Perhaps my feelings have been hurt in the past, and I’m cautious of having my hopes dashed again.

This could be one heck of a year if Legwand and Erat do their magic. Legwand is a wild card…he is streaky. When his cold spell comes in, the Preds end up not playing at their best. Same with Erat, he can be a great sniper if he could bring it every night. You could have Erat at 30 goals and about 60 points every season! My prediction is Erat will end up scoring about 25, assisting on 25. 50 point season for Erat. As for Legwand, if he has the right line mates, he could end up with 65 points.
