Hornqvist Contract..2 years or 5?
The Predators are in a tough spot with this one. I really don't know why we have not seen a contract yet for Hornqvist. But I understand the gamble they are taking. If they go 2 years at say 2.75mil and Hornqvist, and he keeps scoring 30 goals a year, its very likely we will loose him on his next contract. If they go 5 years starting at 3mil and escalating to say 5mil with a no trade clause and he doesn't produce I can see them getting stuck with another Legwand like contract. I hope they can make a mid-length deal with Patrick, say 3 years at 3mil with incentives that would allow him to boost his income as it helps the team and then a a 2 year, club option, for around 4 or 5mil to insure we do not loose him.

Good question
I think what we’re seeing this summer is a lot of short-term contracts, for two big reasons.
1. The US TV contract expires after this season, and it’s hoped the new one will bring in more revenue, leading to a rise in the overall salary level. For a player, they might not want to commit too far out and miss that opportunity.
2. The CBA expires in 2012, and who knows where that could head.
I’m guessing we’ll see a one- or two-year deal, and the really good news is that salaries don’t seem to be blowing up, so $2.5 million is probably in the ballpark for what he’ll get.

Topic of the summer
This seems to be the hot topic for the Preds this summer. There have been a few recent signings of players in similar situations, so there is some precedent for a deal for Horny now. I see him getting something similar to Matt Moulson’s 1-yr deal worth about 2.45 mil. I’d like to sign him for longer, but I think this is more likely.
I Say
2 or 3 years averaging around 2.5 mil. no way he is worth the 3 escalating to 5 mil type deal. also the long term deals seem to be the ones that bite us and besides…. he had 1 good year. i say give him 2 and if he is terrific and we lose him i will live w/ that. i would rather risk losing him after 2 or 3 great years than be stuck w/ him for 5 mediocre or poor years.
Guessing on how much time it is taking to make this deal, I would say something like 1 year/1.25M-2.00M
