What has been your greatest memory as a Nashville Predators fan?

Our series of weekend hockey conversations returns to a theme we touched on earlier this summer. Back in July, I asked you which moment in Nashville Predators history came closest to making you quit as a fan. Today, with training camp just around the corner, and optimism running high, I'd like to turn that question around:

What has been your greatest memory as a Nashville Predators fan?

Was it the excitement following the Forsberg trade? That first playoff season? The summer rally of 2007? Steve Sullivan's return?

Sound off in the comments below....

Game 3 of the playoffs in 2004

I was a relatively new ‘hard core" fan at that point. First ever home playoff game for the Predators. A lot of us, myself included, were seeing playoff hockey for the first time. We were the underdogs of underdogs and should have been the classic “just happy to be here” team, but when we pulled out that first win in solid fashion, it was awesome. The arena was really rockin’ and I know a lot of people became permanent hockey fans that night.

PredWings

This was also the first Red Wings game that I remember not feeling like an away game. Sure there were plenty of Wings fans in the building, but this game felt very different. Much more of a Preds fan base in the seats. I know of several Detroit fans who started to turn in their Wings for the upstart Preds that night too.

I agree about Game 3 in 2004

I watch highlights from that playoff series and just yell and get goosebumps, but the other times I’ve been super excited as a Preds fan include:8-0 embarrasment of the Dead Wings, Game 1 of the 2010 playoffs (I have never, EVER yelled so loud at the TV over ANYTHING), and of course, the local ownership group saving us from Sillyballs and keeping THE Nashville Predators in Nashville.

for me two stand out

being a Sully fan, it was great to see him come back. and secondly was the game we played on valentines day and legwand scored a goal in a shoot out against Boston to give us the win, i remember it was one of the first games for me and my better half, and everyone was on their feet yelling and screaming!! really got us Hooked..

What’s yours, Dirk?

Mine, being the “new” fan that I am (3 years or so) has to be Game 1 of the Blackhawks series. The team had tried and tried to win on the road, and went into one of the most intimidating venues in hockey and pulled it out. When Smithson slotted home that empty netter, I was ecstatic.

A close second is watching the 8-0 smackdown of Detroit develop. I mean, really – Antti Pilhstrom and Ville Koistenen scored in that game.

Mine would have to be the 2 goals in 9 seconds in the playoffs against Detroit. That was incredible to see, especially in light of all the drama that season.

I had my youngest son (who was 5 then) with me, and that moment pretty much seared a love for hockey right into him. I’ve been lucky enough to see a lot of great hockey moments, and that one stands right alongside the best.

Leggy's steal . . .

off D. Hatcher, skating in and beating Legace, and the roof-lifting roar of the crowd thereafter. THE best moment in that building for me.

I *think* it was game 4 of the same playoff series...

….that started off with a goal by Greg Johnson in the first few seconds, then went on to be a shutout (3-0). Had so much fun at that game. We were surrounded by obnoxious WIngs fans (a grown woman holding an Yzerman doll) and some kids behind me that kept flipping my seat up, hoping to make me fall (and his parents did nothing about it). Was so great to see them silenced.

There was a game in ’07, I think, also against the Wings, in which Kariya tied up the game with less than a minute to go, then the Preds ended up winning.

The 8-0 game was amazing. Didn’t go because we’d already been twice that week. What I wouldn’t give to have been there!

8-0 Trouncing of DeetWaaah

First time I had sat in the lower bowl. Ten rows from the glass on the shoot twice side. Father-in-law gave me and my wife the tickets. Crowd was super loud that night already. 5 goals in the first. Pinching myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming. Arnott scores his second in the second, and the hattie in the third. My grren St. Patty’s Day cap was the first to hit the ice. Never have I been happier to lose a hat in all my life.

Hate to admit it, but when I’m feeling down about the Preds losing a heartbreaker (see playoffs this last year) I can go back and watch the highlights from that game and get goosebumps and a smile from ear to ear.

GO PREDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same

I couldn’t get tickets, so I watched the game in a sportsbar with my buddy (a wings fan). Should have made him buy the beer after each goal.

game 3 in 2004.

that was the best game i have ever been to. i think it was all the factors leading into the game as much as the game itself. nobody expected us to win 1 game against the wings, but the preds went out and welcomed the wings to “SMASHville” with extreme prejudice. it was the first playoff game i’ve been to, and i can’t remember any other game where i yelled at the top of my lungs as much. it was well worth all the cough drops i had to consume the next day.

I didn't get to watch the 8-0 win except for the highlights...

It’s close for me between two things and only a 3 year resident/fan:

Sharks vs Preds in ‘09. Down 2-0 in the 2nd, they were trying to get something going, then like magic – 3 goals in 2:34. This was the first standing O I was witness to in person, and man was it powerful. I’ve been to Twins playoff games and nothing has ever hit me like that did. I was starting to tear up. Just beautiful.

Start at 1:35 to see the 3 goals.

The other moment was that game 3 here this year. The goals, the penalty shot – they looked as good as I’ve ever seen the team in person. If that Sharks game hooked me, this game made me a rabid fan of this team. I know soon they’ll make it past that first round.

memorable for a different reason

it was a game in 1998 just before halloween against vancouver ( i think). sound vague enough? it didnt matter who we were playing, but here is the scenerio. my ex wife, 2 kids and i had gone to opening night. my ex and oldest son were bored. my youngest ( he was 14 then) and i enjoyed the game enough i followed their tv games. i was becoming a fan and was offered tickets. we had recently coughed up a lead late to lose to chicago ( again, i think). we built an early lead and looked to be about to repeat the last minute loss of that recent game. we hung on and won an exciting game and we were hooked. a couple days later the same happened against colorado on halloween. these games not only hooked me on hockey in general and the preds in particular, but became a bond between my youngest son and myself. by the next season i was divorced and didnt live in the same house w/ him anymore, but except for when he was in atlanta in college we have attended 10-20 games a year ever since. last year we went on the st louis road trip, a 1st for us. less than a month ago he moved to knoxville, but we have our tickets for opening night and the next saturday against the caps. we wont go to as many games this year, but we will still get to several. i may go to a few others, but none will be better than that night against vancouver when the preds became a bond between us that will never change.

Of Course the 8-0 beatdown of the Wings...

But another moment that is completely random… in 2008 on Valentines Day I took my daughter to her first Pred game against Chicago. The Preds were getting just shellacked and were down like 6-1 with 5:00 min to go in the 3rd. Legwand (or Smithson maybe) scored and the crowd started chanting “We Want Tacos!” Nobody left and the crowd was totally still into the game….my daughter was completely and irrevocably hooked from that moment on.
I just remember thinking at the time how different the crowd reaction was compared to the reaction of the Chicago fans at the games I grew up going to…until you go to a Preds game hockey fans don’t really understand what true “fanaticism” is all about.

This year, 3rd Playoff Game (First at home)

I’d never been to a playoff in any professional sport, so when the preds got in this year I had saved up some money to make it. The building was super loud the whole time, and the game always felt in control. It was a worthwhile trip and I’ll never forget that night as that was the loudest I’ve ever heard any sporting event get

Looked for the highlights of the 8-0 game on YouTube

…just to relive it, and the video quality is awful. Does anyone have a link to the highlights from NHL’s site?

Do those links ever expire?

‘Cause it won’t play. Just the ad, then nothing.

Thanks, though!

Strange… what you can do there is look at the list of goals to the right, and click the blue “play” button to the left of the 1st one. It’ll play the highlight then move on to the next one.

Best Memories

1st and formost would have to be the game I meet my now wife at. 2nd is the 8-0 beat down of the ding dings. That was a great redemption for all the beating we took from them. 3rd is Game 3 here last year against the Blaahhawks. That is the loudest I have ever heard the Nashville-GEC-Nashville-Sommett Center-Bridgestone Arena get! I hope the memories keep going on! I would like to add a Stanley Cup Parade down Broadway to the list! GO PREDS!!!

Favorite moment ever had to be Sullivan’s return when I’d pretty much given up any hope of him ever taking the ice in the NHL again.

But my favorite moment I ever saw in person was Darcy Hordichuk ko’ing Matt Barnaby in one punch during a game late in the 05-06 season, then winning that game in a shootout.

I’m sorry but how the heck was Arnott not ready for that jump. Its not like he was really tackling him. I mean Radu weighed 170 wet. Its a conspiracy. Or Arnott’s legs were just dead at that moment. But I tend to say it’s a conspiracy.

Montreal, November 2009

My Dad (big Preds fan) and I (I live in Raleigh) have one big sports weekend per year (Maryville football, Vandy football, Predators, and Titans, assuming the schedule lines up).

I have never seen a team dominate a hockey game as did Smashville last November. 25-2 in shots in the first period. Montreal (who just turned 100) set records for most saves – had any ordinary goalie been in the net, Nashville could have lit les Habitants up for double digits.

Preds First Game Ever

We rode the Music City Queen to Riverfront Park and walked to the arena. You could hear the crowd roaring from outside the venue as the Preds left the ice after warm-ups. Then the roar of the crowd again as the team came back onto the ice for pregame. The first ever drop of the puck and how well the team played despite losing 2-0. Mike Dunham looked like a star in that game, and even then you knew this team was going to be better than the typical expansion team. The 4th best record in expansion history proved that to be the case.

That was back before the Tennessean’s relationship with the team became acrimonious. Newspapers depicting the first drop of the puck in Music City were being passed around for free. I still have my copy.

After the game, sitting on the Music City Queen once again, the city of Nashville launched fireworks to celebrate the Preds first game in franchise history then we floated back to Opryland. It was a great night all the way around.

Fangtastic Finale 2008 vs St. Louis Blues

Ok this isn’t a sexy pick. its not a playoff game and it isn’t a game that we scored a hundred goals and its not against the red wings. But let me give you some history. It was the year that we had the rally I think the 07-08 season. Everything was uncertain. But with all the distractions we were in position to take the last Stanley Cup Playoff spot with a win over the St. Louis Blues. I think that was the first time I’ve ever seen the “STANDING OVATION TOWEL WAVE FOR THE WHOLE COMMERCIAL BREAK”. It was so emotional. You could feel the passion of everyone in the arena. So electric… I will never forget that night.
