New York Islanders claim Evgeni Nabokov
Craig Custance got the word out via Twitter that the New York Islanders (who were 3rd in line behind the Devils and Oilers) claimed Evgeni Nabokov off waivers, after the Red Wings had signed him to a contract.
They can't trade him without putting him through waivers again, so if he's still going to make it to Detroit, it will be a convoluted road.

Interesting situation...
According to NHL.com, Nabby doesn’t wanna play for the Islanders.
If he refuses to report, what happens? Does he just get traded, or does that effectively mean the (permanent) end of his NHL career? I understand that they can’t send him to the AHL, and trading him would mean more waivers…
Does NYI send him on to DET in exchange for something small like a 7th-rounder? (and possibly have him claimed again by someone else)
Head up, stick down.
I'm pretty sure this is the way it goes...
He will not have a chance to play this season if he refuses to be apart of the NYI franchise. Come off-season, he will be added to the list of Free Agents available to sign. Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s what I’ve read on a few forums.

that either he gets Radulov’d and doesn’t get to play for the rest of the season, with no pay. Or, the Islanders can let him go back to the waiver wire.
Either way, he doesn’t get a lot of props for his return to the NHL.

Islanders claim Evgeni Nabokov
What’s the point , Snow knew he wanted to play for Detroit , Nabby doesn’t want to play for any nhl team , He wants to help a team winning the stanley cup , he earns 24 millions for four seasons in the KHL ! WHTK was Snow thinking , the Islanders had no business claiming A 35 years old Goalie that will had 4 to 5 millions to the salary cap,
Please , can anyone explains why the Islanders claimed him ??
