Saturday's notes: Preds Fest in full effect!

WINNIPEG, CANADA - SEPTEMBER 30: Cal O'Reilly #16 of the Nashville Predators tries to get the puck past Zach Bogosian #4 of the Winnipeg Jets in preseason NHL action at the MTS Centre on September 30, 2011 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. (Photo by Marianne Helm/Getty Images)

With Preds Fest kicking into full gear today with an Open House, autograph signings, and of course, tonight's pre-season game against Carolina, the pulse of the hockey community is really picking up around Nashville (head here for all the details). This morning's hockey notes include previews, trade speculation, and word that some fans lost their access to the NHL Network this morning...

Alex Radulov’s agent, coach, GM address trade request, bitterness - Puck Daddy
In a further update to yesterday's story, it sounds like Radulov has had "oral agreements" that he can return to the NHL for the 2012-2013 season, but his contract doesn't actually contain any such clause. Don't get your hopes up, folks.

Paul McCann - Preds Win, Hating on the Commish, and Game Night
Paul points out some of the absurdity about blaming Gary Bettman for pretty much everything that hockey fans don't like, in this case the move of the Jets to Phoenix back in the 90's.

U-verse Customers About To Lose NHL Network - KuklasKorner
Attention, AT&T U-verse customers, it looks like you lost the NHL Network this morning (so much for watching last night's Preds-Jets game). If you want to switch to DirecTV, email me at the.forechecker@gmail.com and I'll help you save $100. I've had DirecTV since 1998 with the Center Ice package, and it is, shall we say, the bomb!

We shouldn’t get our hopes up about Rads…. cause if there’s one thing he does well, that’s honor contracts

Drove through Nashville yesterday and picked up some new Nashville gear with the new logo – it looks great. Lots of sweaters being sold at the Arena. Looking forward to seeing how the Preds do this season. You’ve got a first-class team, Nashville, and I’d love to see you make it to the Finals.

What is keeping Rads in Russia?

If he can’t get a trade to the KHL, he can walk on his “contract”, walk back to his other contract. Outside of playing with the Russian national team, there should be nothing to hold him back from returning.

Granted, playing with the Russian national team is a big thing…

Also way more money and the chance to be the superstar, both of which he’d have to work up to here.

Yeah I’m not counting on him being here, ever. The pitch seems to be, “So you think you’re one of the best? Come play in the best league.” I don’t think that’s going to be enough with him. I think you need to have money or lots of Russians already in the fold, or both. And we’ve got neither. Wish my last memory of him wasn’t knocking Arnott out of the playoffs. He’s fun to watch. We could use him.

Not if he’s gonna act like a baby, we don’t. He’d end up getting benched and not do anyone any good. Then we’d have “DRaaamaa”.

I don't think money is a problem

Though he may be on a cheapy contract right now, I seem to recall Poile saying he would throw more money at him if he came back.

by musamonster on Oct 2, 2011 1:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Really? You don’t think it’s a problem for him? He walked away from that exact contract over money and what he termed “respect.” He’s fighting with his team right now over money and “respect.” It’s an open secret over there that he wants to go to SKA St Petersburg (NOT the NHL) because they’ll pay more and are more “glamorous” as Malamud put it. His issues are money and “respect.” As long as he is required to fulfill that contract, it’s going to be a barrier to him coming over.
