Saturday's notes: Smashville hits the 1,000 mark

Will you be there for Game #1000 tonight?

Today is all about celebrating the story of the Nashville Predators, who tonight welcome in Montreal for their 1,000th regular season game. As we've seen recently, sometimes expansion franchises never make it to that mark in their original city, so it's worth celebrating the fact that not only are the Preds surviving, they're thriving, and from a business standpoint are possibly in the strongest position they've ever been.

Follow after the jump as our morning hockey notes start off with a number of different angles on this historic day for the Preds...

Pete and Terry

They have such great senses of humor. We’re lucky to have them.

I was there for game 1. Wish I could be there for game 1,000. I’ll probably be the only one on the GDT tonight.

by Griz-ATL on Nov 12, 2011 10:54 AM EST reply actions

I’ll be in and out. You won’t be alone, I don’t think. A lot of out of towners are GDT regulars. But really, if Link’s not gonna be there, he needs to hand off the keys to the graphics to someone who will be.

Don’t forget OddManRush. I would be scared to see what’s in both of their graphics archives. They can keep the keys, thank you very much!

I have season tickets, so I’m not in the GDTs for home games. That’s probably a good thing for everyone’s sake, thus limiting exposure to the radioactivity.

Let's see.........

….if this is our 1,000th game, that means, it’s probably around our 500th regular season HOME game……….which puts me at my 486th home game, attended !!

I haven’t missed a pre-season home game, nor a post-season home game, yet…….plus, I went to the very FIRST game the Preds ever played, in pre-season, in Huntsville.

THOSE should put me well over the 500 games-attended mark.

GOOOOOOOOOO PREDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’LL BE THERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hands Go Up

I will be there in 326 with the wife and daughter enjoying the game wondering how long it will take the guy who sits a few rows up to yell “Hit ’em in the mouth!” We always have a great time win or lose.

I just realized that Brian "The Goalie Killer" Gionta will be playing tonight

He tried to assassinate Dwayne Roloson in the preseason and succeeded in decapitating James Reimer a few weeks ago.

Watch your head, Pekka! Gionta has been known to attack at random, running full speed at a goalie’s unprotected noggin in a effort to shear it off! I cannot stress enough how dangerous this man is. DO NOT attempt to apprehend him on your own. Be vigilant and report any sightings directly to Shea Weber!

No kidding. They thought Reimer wasn’t that bad off after the game, but it’s just progressively gotten worse, and the Maple Leafs are now unsettled in goal. Speaking of goalies, Mark Dekanich suffered a groin injury during the pregame warmups last night. Not good news for him or the Jackets.

by OddManRush on Nov 12, 2011 12:56 PM EST up reply actions

I saw the hit on Roloson and he just laid there for a long time. I was freaking out. He got up and talked to the trainer for a while and then finished the game, but I thought he had whiplash for sure. It’s so bizarre, though, that Gionta hit two goalies in exactly the same way within a few weeks.

As for Dex, yeah, that’s not good news at all. Although I hear Sanford is getting close to coming back. I also hear Howson is shopping for a goalie, but you know rumors.

Looking forward to hearing about the game

I’ve only been to about 5 Predators games at Gaylord/Nashville/Sommet/Bridgestone Arena (long drive from Raleigh), but it is a great atmosphere, and I’ve cheered on the Cats in multiple visiting arenas.

My Dad is going – he is in town for the Vandy football game today (from East TN), and I am looking forward to hearing about it. I remember when he and I went to see Montreal 2 years ago, and that was worst beatdown I’ve ever seen – when the Preds outshot Montreal like 24-2 in the 1st period. When you set Montreal records in their 100th year of play (7000 games or so), that is really impressive. Here’s to hoping the same thing happens tonight.

I’ll be in front of the tv, but our financial advisor will be there in our name! lol However, we will be in front of the tv with shirts on and goodies! And I’ll let you guys do the game thread. I can’t keep up, and if I’m at at the computer or my phone, I might miss something while I’m typing!
