Tuesday's notes: Blake goes Boom
This morning's hockey notes include word that Blake Geoffrion has become the latest Nashville Predator to suffer a lost-time injury, reaction to a controversial call which had a major impact on last night's game, and speculation over whether the Preds should make a push to acquire the latest star forward who is reportedly on the trading block...

Hockey Night in Nashville: Should Nashville trade for Bobby Ryan?
I'd say no, based on what it would probably cost in trade. I'd rather see the team assemble a stronger 3rd line than try and acquire a big-name star.

There's no argument from me on this one - it looked like the refs made a call because Blake got hurt, more than anything else. It was a hard, clean hit, and Weber's goal on the resulting power play changed the game last night.

Geez, it has to be a hard job..
Being an NHL ref – hope they get paid well. Jones’ hit on Blake seemed perfectly fine to me. Never want to see anyone get hurt, especially a Pred, but I would be frustrated if I were Jones about being sent to the box for two minutes. Hope Blake heals quickly.

No it wasn’t an elbow, but as I say all the time when we start complaining about calls, there are 55 other minutes in the game and many other calls. You have to be able to kill a bad penalty as well as a good one, and I’m 100% positive that Edmonton has benefitted from from some bad penalties called on their opponents. Just like Nashville has. The refs are going to miss stuff and unless you want to have them stop and review the video on these situations you have to accept that bad call are going to get made.
Just ask Hornqvist. He got a game misconduct for an elbow that didn’t happen last season.

The refs seemed to make up for the bad on Jones
by that lame interference call on SK and the phantom tripping on Josi. A bizarre 5 minutes of officiating for sure.
im ok with a few bad calls in a game
but that fiasco last night where they made one bad call and then spent the rest of the period making up for it, is horrible. If you’re going to make a bad call, then live with it, don’t try to appease the fans or “fix” your mistake afterward.

Agreed. I deal with most calls, good and bad, but last night was getting ridiculous.
Hands go uuppp..... AND THEY STAY THERE!

I agree, too, but I also don’t think that one call costs a team the game. That’s just an excuse. Every semester I get a student coming up to me at finals time asking what they can do to bring their D- up to a B for the semester because they’re on academic probation and they’re going to flunk out if they don’t bring up their grade. Well, what about all those assignments you didn’t do over the past 3 months? For that matter what about all those other courses you didn’t do the work for? That one exam didn’t cost you. All the other decisions you made did. It’s the same with a bad call. If you get the job done in the other 55 minutes, you can overcome one bad call.

Is it a surprise to anyone that SK74 was the only Pred w/o a SOG again? (other than Boomer who got hurt early)
So one of our top line wingers STILL has only 4 SOG’s this month and not a single SOG or MS in 7 of those games in November. He pissed me off again last night when he passed up a great open shot to the net again and instead missed sending a clean feed to Erat on that 2 on 1 breakaway late. Somebody get SK74 a hockey shrink, drop him to the 3rd or 4th line(and move up Smith), or trade his won’t shoot the puck ass. Trotzy chewing him out for not shooting hasn’t worked and I’m busting too many remotes against the wall watching him play(or NOT play). WE ARE NOT getting our $2.5 mil worth on him.
SK is a set-up man, that’s why he gets the 2.5 mil. And as Dirk noted recently, we lose all the games in which he registers a shot and win when he doesn’t shoot.
Oh come on!!! I don't buy that!
SK74 lead us in scoring last season and tied Erat in total pts, though Erat did played less than SK due to injuries. Even Trotz has been fuming that he doesn’t shoot enough. What good is a set up man that won’t shoot AT ALL? Part of being a set up man is getting some SOG to set up rebound chances. And what kind of a stat is it that we win when he doesn’t shoot, but lose when he does? That’s a real head scratcher!!!! Last I looked we won the games where he scored. I’ll take my chances on anybody shooting the hell out of the puck rather than the Preds getting outshot (and usually very badly) in over 90% of our games. I know it’s the Preds/Trotz way, but Trotz DOESN’T say go out there and play a good game but DON’T shoot the puck!!!!!!
Bobby Ryan
Of course Poile would want him. Just the fact that his name has ‘Ryan’ in it should make Poile salivate at the prospect of acquiring him, but what Jeremy is proposing is ludicrous. I’m really glad he’s not our GM. Sheesh!
