Thursday's notes: Ducks fire Randy Carlyle, hire Bruce Boudreau

The NHL's coaching carousel took another turn overnight, with the Anaheim Ducks firing head coach Randy Carlyle and replacing him with Bruce Boudreau, who was let go in Washington on Monday. Besides possibly reviving a team which was expected to contend for the playoffs, one has to wonder if this move will put all the Bobby Ryan trade talk on hold for the time being. I'd expect that the new coach will want to try things out before the team makes any more major moves.

But that development only leads off our morning hockey notes - follow after the jump for all the rest!

Why Anaheim’s firing Carlyle, hiring Bruce Boudreau is genius - Puck Daddy
This could work out to be a great pickup for Anaheim. Boudreau's background might mesh better with a Ducks team which is quite different from the one which Randy Carlyle led to the Stanley Cup in 2007. Carlyle, a Norris Trophy-winning defenseman in his day, had a stacked blueline back then with Chris Pronger, Scott Niedermayer leading the way. Now, the Ducks are built around talent up front, and perhaps Boudreau (who lit it up as a mostly minor-league center) can get them rolling.

No way Ryan gets traded...

BB loves him some offense…often at the expense of defense.

I’d bet that Ryan stays with the Ducks this season.

Wonder if GM Bob Murray is regretting that contract extension he gave Carlyle now?

I have to agree, it’s highly doubtful Ryan is going anywhere for the time being. Back to targeting Parise now! :D

Speaking of the Devils, DeBoer is my pick to be next on the coaching carousel.

Defense keeps you in games........offense wins them!

Wonder how much time Murray will have to do much regretful thinking in Anaheim.

Hmm... no Predators here

Yes, but Marek Zidlicky—who was “Kevin Klein” before Kevin Klein arrived—deserves his spot on the list.

Key point

They have to make more than $4 mil a year. GMDP isn’t stupid enough to give Klein $4 mil a year

Hmm....no Predators here

maybe not on that list, but to me just an indication of how far off the NHL radar the Predators are. Erat, Fisher, Legwand are the highest paid forwards on the team. 13 goals total.

The Detroit list left off one of my favorite national announcers- Jim Hughson. He just sounds so natural calling games.

Good. Freaking. Riddance.

It’s a pity that Anaheim has doubled my list of people I don’t hate there. Used to just be Selanee.

We'll miss you Belak...
