great game last night

got to see it from up close, right behind Pekka’s left shoulder… and yes, it is true…. Perry IS a sissy… and of course Getzlaf is a crybaby

The Ducks used to get by with the unnecessary penalties they ALWAYS take…..But this is a new year and their team isn’t as talanted as their captain thinks it is.

Too bad Selanne. has to play his last year on an undisciplined team full of players who think the league and the refs are out to get them. I don’t know who I blame more…Selanne for wanting one more year with this group of the other players who are pissing away his lst year.

Blum vs. Josi vs. Hillen

In the postgame TV interview last night, Coach Trotz said it is a competition between Blum and Josi for a spot on the 3rd D pairing with Hillen. Seems to me Blum and Josi have a higher upside. If Trotz believes Hillen is the man, don’t you think Blum/Josi would be better off getting minutes in Milwaukee rather than watching from the press box every night?

I don’t know, I think they’ve proven all they can at the AHL level, at this point it’s about developing the consistency and competitiveness with the big boys. Hillen, at least, is a known quantity, and as I wrote back when David Poile floated the notion of using 3 rookie defensemen a couple years ago, I can’t believe a team which considers itself a playoff contender would pair up two rookies on a nightly basis.

Neither one can improve their consistency and competitiveness in the press box. I agree that an all-rookie 3rd pairing isn’t ideal. And has proven to be painful so far.

When Klein spent his year as the 7th defenseman in the press box (13 games played in 07-08), he would have had to pass through waivers if they wanted to send him to Milwaukee. So in that case it made sense. We didn’t want to lose him. And it didn’t seem to affect his development.

Since Blum and Josi are able to move freely between Nashville and Milwaukee, I think they’d be better off playing, not sitting.

It’s easier to just play the victim all the time. A leader is always about accountability and the willingness to do all whats necessary, no matter how uncomfortable it may make you. This generation of players, people, and “leaders” is loaded with victims.

Even his coach ain't buying this excuse
“There wasn’t much to it,” Boudreau said, “but he (McMillan) shouldn’t have his stick there in the first place. Just go ahead and play.”

When you're beaten handily

and you complain about one play? Not good.

Sorta like the field goal timeout controversy in the Cowboys-Cardinals game last Sunday. Fact is, it shouldn’t have mattered. The Cowboys should have been up on the Cards instead of tied with them in the last minute.

by musamonster on Dec 11, 2011 3:11 PM EST up reply actions

I believe powers to be thought our 2nd pairing would be more consistent and allow a all rookie 3rd develop with less minutes. Instead, we’ve lived thru several experiments, including splitting up our top pair.

I sure didn’t think this far unto the season we would be talking about poor defense and not anemic offense.

In this case attitude definetly reflects on leadership. Your captain doing this is like giving a green light for excuses instead of results.

Getzlaf is a talented, bonafide number one center.

But he’s frustrating, and he really shouldn’t be the Ducks captain. I would prefer to give the C to Saku or Teemu.

he is extremely talented....

but he needs to stop blaming everyone or everything other than his teams actions/inactions for losing. He’s the captain and he needs to act like it. They played a lethargic game last night and he whines about that one call from the ref? If they played well and lost only because of that one call i could understand it. But they didn’t….they were lucky ellis was on his A game. I really wish Teemu would’ve taken the C for what may be his last season. I really think they would be in a different position if Teemu was captain.

by Herzausstein on Dec 11, 2011 5:46 PM EST up reply actions

Clearly the captain is not fullfilling his duties by taking the blame for the team and saying he look it wont happen again. So how many days till they start shopping Ryan again?

Also it seems to me that while Blum has been in a bad position at times this year he has also played pretty well at times. Having him and Josi as the 3rd D pair while it might sound like a bad idea they did play really well together last year in Mil. They have a chemistry together and that may work out better. I am just not sold on Hillen at all he seems to make Klein look worse or have to make him work harder (while we all rag on the guy we all admit that he has stepped his game up and played really well this year. He is never going to be a 1st line D pair guy but as a 2 or 3 line guy he sells out and throws his body around like a crash test dummy.) Blum has a few stats that are better then Hillen and I think that if Blum has more upside then why not try to get closer to that upside rather then have him sit and wait. Blum does have a save to his credit, and a nice one at that. He also didnt get released by the Islanders…..

by Shadow23 on Dec 11, 2011 5:52 PM EST reply actions

I think it’s Hillen for experience purposes only. Blum will get his opportunity .
