Tuesday afternoon notes: Preds pare roster to 21
In the last 24 hours we've seen both Jonathon Blum and Blake Geoffrion dispatched to Milwaukee, leaving the Nashville Predators with 21 skaters on the NHL roster. Both optimists and pessimists can find something to chew on here - on the optimistic side, one could say that the team has shaken out and the coaches now know who they can run with, so it makes sense for the guys on the outside to get work in Milwaukee instead. The pessimist might look at a team which stands 30th in spending, and could certainly use an injection of talent both up front and along the blueline.
So heading in to tonight's game against Calgary, in which camp do you reside? Do you like the look of this team right now, or are the Blum & Geoffrion assignments a disappointing development? Ponder that question while reading your afternoon hockey notes...

my 2 cents
a consistent scorer is and has been needed. some beef is needed to shore up the D. hillen and cube are small. cube is not speedy. josi has shown to be a rookie he is defending and capable scoring. hope he is not the zidlicky 2nd coming. or even andy delmore.
You get what you pay for.....
being thrifty is a virtue…..being cheap is a whole different ball of wax.
Can you guess which camp I'm in? LOL!
Right about now, upper management/ownership are looking rather two-faced.
As many have said, we need another good forward and probably an O’Brien type Dman. I won’t hold my breath waiting for anything to happen though.

I think we can take the ‘we will be looking for a top 6 guy’ and throw that in the bin with Radulov coming back

Imagine how good we’d look if GMDP had signed Fleischmann this off-season like we both wanted him to.

Keep the faith...
I spoke with Tom Cigarran at a function a few days ago, and he stated we would be obtaining a forward in the five million dollar range before the trade deadline.
Take that for what it’s worth as A. I’m just some random stranger to him, B. He stated confidence in signing Weber and Suter, and C. He has said conflicting things before.

I'll take option C.
I’m bearish on Ciggy & Co. following thru on the big talk. Will gladly be proven wrong.

it's disappointing
to see those guys get sent down, but if it gets them going that’s great. I’m glad to see guys that need to be in the AHL get sent down. Unfortunately this team’s only option these days is to replace them with other guys that need to be in AHL still.
I’m not sure that I’m all the way sold on Josi yet, he gets burned and gives up a goal almost every game.
Hopefully the extra time Blum gets with the Admirals will give him the edge he played with when he got called up last season. He’ll probably be back before Geoffrion simply because you can’t really count on Cube staying healthy.
I wish that our ability to scout quality free agents was as good as our ability to develop young guys.
Suter's reaction to Blum getting sent down:
"I talked to him when he was getting scratched and told him, ‘Be pissed off. You can’t be happy about it. The guys who are happy about it, they don’t have a future in the league. You have to be mad about it, you have to get determined and do everything in your power to get back up here,’" defenseman Ryan Suter said.
Gotta love this kind of leadership. Hopefully Blum takes it to heart and we see him back in Nashville sooner rather than later.
