Kyle Wilson assigned to Milwaukee
The following came from the Predators:
Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile announced today that the club has reassigned forward Kyle Wilson to Milwaukee (AHL).
Wilson, 26 (12/15/84), suited up for five games during his first stint with the Predators, going pointless and averaging 8:08 of ice time.
Apparently with the games coming up on the schedule, the Preds feel confident in the 20-man lineup they currently have, because this move leaves them with just 20 skaters on the Active Roster, leaving no room for healthy scratches.
That means Brian McGrattan will be a presence in the nightly lineup unless another move is in the works. Can he contribute more than just the odd sideshow brawl on a regular basis? We'll find out soon.

I don't mind that McGrattan
has very little offensive talent. I don’t mind that he has very little defensive talent. I don’t even mind the premeditated brawl every now and then because it can get the testosterone flowing.
What I do mind is having a 6’4" 235 lb player who won’t check people. He just doesn’t seem to want to hit unless it’s with his fists.

The last game he played, he laid several good checks. The guys playing 6-8 minutes a nite, just how many hits can he make?
I like Mcgratten playing. The last game with the Ducks, we had the fisticuffs early and the game settled down. Without that early fight, who knows.

I didn’t see last nights game because I was at an SPHL game. I’ll take your word for it though.
I know most games he just seems to kind of cruise around the ice though.

It is interesting that no one can figure out just what McG brings to the table, but evidently Coach likes him. I read that he always stays late at practice. You can’t fault a guy for that. And he goes about the fighting in such an old fashioned way-“I like you, but I’m going to pound you into icicle cause you are the opposition.” simple but effective. And he has the face and personality to make some awesome commercials for hockey. I don’t know why they haven’t discover him yet. He has the perfect hockey look!

Cmon Amy….you KNOW what he brings to the table. He is a legitament enforcer. He doesn’t skate around taking cheap shots like so many of the so called “gritty” players in the league. He plays his minutes and if some trash needs to be deposited in the dumpster, he goes out and sets up the pickup.
Off topic, but since there is so much discussion about fighting, do we need it in the game, yada, yada, yada…….If it wasn’t for the antics of players who are labeled “gritty” when in fact thay are dirty and take action after the whistle blows, the need for the enforcer roll would be lessened.

We all know what he brings to the table, the disagreement is over whether that’s what this team needs.
And as regards staying late after practice, that’s what all the guys who play very little do, it’s standard procedure.
There’s no question, though, he’s earning a following among the fan base.

I know I’ve turned the corner. I thought he was a terrible acquisition. Now, I’m cheering for the guy. I think my entire neighborhood heard me yelling, “McGrattan gets a point! McGrattan gets a point!” during the Calgary game. Go get ’em Big Ern!

He’s got more game than I thought he would coming in. I do like that he at least plays physical and if he gets the emotion going the right way…

I saw a jersey with “Big Ern” on the back last night. Good stuff. :)

The expectation shouldn’t discredit his actions though. In listening to some of the things Trotz has said, I think his value to the team is partly as a guy who sets the right example…a bit like old number 25 maybe, though in a slightly different role. He isn’t exactly keeping star forwards off the roster either…

Yea, if his money is keeping us from a star forward……we are in trouble.

I understand what all of you are saying. What I had in my head didn’t get to the page it seems. I apologize. Am I right in saying that we had a good enforcer in Belak and Trotz didn’t play him very much the last season, and then let him go? So why McG? Is he a better fighter, better leader? better player?
"I am you, you are me, and we are all together" Beatles
From what I’ve seen McGrattan is a 10X better hockey player than Belak. Not a big liability, shoots the puck, and eats up minutes on the 4th line in way that Trotz didn’t trust Belak’s hockey “skills” to…..but all that said, I still miss Belak every damn day.

Belak
was terrible at hockey. and his fighting abilities were severely diminished by the time he came to us. McGrattan can skate, shoot, pass, and fight a LOT better than Belak could. I think Belak was probably a better locker room guy, but that was about it. Oh, and according to his twitter, McGrattan is probably better at Call of Duty too.
hockey connoisseur. t-shirt addict. not famous. nerd.
McGrattan is actually looking like a useful 4th liner. He plays pretty smart and I’ve counted mulitiple times where he’s created scoring chances this year. LIke someone already mentioned, he’s 10x the hockey player Belak was, RIP, and is a great heavyweight. He’s cheap and not wasting someone else’s space. No problems from me.
McG
is a decent goon to have on the roster…I wouldnt say he is as needed as a true offense first guy or a decent defender like O’Brien was but goons are not supposed to play like Mike Boss and Kenny Daneko
We're flirting with going under the cap floor with this move.
Just looking at CapGeek, sending K.Wilson down puts us really close to going under the cap floor. It’s a triumph for all the Scrooge’s during the Christmas season! :D
The big trade must be coming soon! :) (I kid, I kid). :D

So does that put the roster at 20?
If a guy gets called up, who do you think it will be?
Is Sortini in Milwaukee? Maybe he gets the call and Trotzy can use rotating enforcers.
I have serious doubts that Big Ern can stay effective if he plays every night. For some reason I think it takes a little more time for that big frame of his get completely recharged, and there’s gonna have to be somebody to spell him. I’d be fine with Sortini coming back until Geoffrion or Blum gets their issues figured out.
It would be nice if McGratten didn’t have to do all of the ass-whooping by himself.
hate to reply to my own comment, but...
i just saw that Sortini’s with Edmonton. Oh well, I guess they’ll probably bring a guy up from AHL to sit and watch, then.
by NikoliVoltron on Dec 16, 2011 9:31 PM EST up reply actions
What?
Stortini is not with Edmonton, he was last year though. He’s on the Ad’s.
