Friday afternoon notes: NHL's injury ward has a revolving door
This afternoon's hockey notes include several stories of players around the league either going on injured reserve, or getting activated to play. As far as the Predators are concerned, the direct impact here is that two division rivals (who the Preds face in the next two weeks) are welcoming back Top 6 forwards...

The Hippodrome: 2 December 2011 - Nashville Scene
J.R. provides a nice summary of the Phil Williams imbroglio as part of his weekly spin around the Nashville sporting world. As I've said before, the question of the city's financial relationship with the team is important and worthy of debate, but that kind of scandal-seeking investigative reporting doesn't help inform the public. The best article I've seen on the subject so far ran a couple weeks ago in The Tennessean.

Also, that is a FANTASTIC article regarding the Toronto GM and his stance on bullying.
If you’re going to read any of the articles posted today, read that one.

as a current bully, I am quite offended at the NHL’s anti bullying campaign. and by the way, we prefer to be called character builders

Bully’s are just misunderstood!
Anti-bullying campaigns are fine as long as they’re used to prevent bullying of all kinds, not just one specific group. I’ll just leave it at that.
Good article on the Caps situation. Over emphasising any part of the game at the expense of the rest of it leads to a mess like the Caps are dealing with.

Yeah, I do like that he talked about stopping all bullying of all kinds, regardless of the group, at the end. That’s very, very important. I don’t have any problems with his specific focus on the LGBT community, however. I played for several girls teams growing up, and a lot of my teammates experienced harassment and bullying because they were gay. So while it’s not a personal issue for me, it’s an issue I hold near and dear to my heart. It’s just nice to see someone in the NHL community bring up the need to end that crap. Anyway, that’s that :) just thought I’d put in my 2 cents, and booooo bullying!

I'm calling it for tomorrow btw.
We’re getting our HBHT! With Geoffrion out, the Honey Badger is going to unleash the fury on the Sabres in his stead.
Considering the wuppin the Wings put on the Sabers tonight, I’d expect Buffalo to play with some fury as well tomorrow. Badgers need to be on full alert!

But look at what we got back for Jones………it was either Jack Squat or Mr. Nobody, can’t remember which. :D

I don’t really miss him, but I do miss getting zilch for him, especially considering that he was the key piece in the Zidlicky trade. Losing Jones & Peverley for a combined nothing is bad business for a small payroll team like ours.

Keep in mind Blake Comeau just left NY for zilch too. And he is way better than Pevs, Jones, et. al. I don’t necessarily believe it’s the Pred’s not getting anything for these guys, it’s more they can’t get anything for these guys. Why is anyone going to trade you for your spare parts, when they know they can get a similar players for free? I think it’s more bad luck on our part than it is a mismanagement issue. I understand what you’re saying though, you felt like we needed to get a return. I just don’t believe there was anything there to get.

There’s one, maybe two, differences between Comeau and our 2 former players. The big one is, Comeau has a bigger contract, which made him harder to move. The 2nd is, he had zero points this season in about 16 GP with the Isles. Those two combined things made Comeau a risk to a lot of teams.
Peverley I can see not getting much for, but Jones was a top scorer in college who has size as well. Would seem if Santorelli can get you back a 4th round pick, Jones should have gotten at least that much. IMO, letting Jones go for nothing may well have been a wink wink, nod nod thing between us and the Oilers for the Grebeshkov trade, in which case that deal is even worse than it appears.
