Thursday afternoon notes: Celebrate "Our Hockey Way Of Life"
I wasn't even going to post notes this afternoon until I watched the video you'll find at the end of this post, but it's just too great not to share. It'll have you clamoring to head down to Bridgestone Arena, even though we don't have a home game until Sunday!
Jump on in, then...
We'll start with something not directly hockey-related, but still interesting:

Clay Travis sings the praises of Twitter as the enabler of new sports media. He's right on, if a little late to the party.

Shea Weber of Nashville Predators remains out with concussion - ESPN
The captain's definitely out for tomorrow's game, and Sunday sounds "unlikely". Remember, the longer he's out, the longer it will take to get back in game shape even once he resumes practicing. This could take quite a while.

Cheering for the referees - Backhand Shelf
Refereeing is a thankless task, and the zebras' hard work is too often overlooked.
Lastly... This is a little bit long, but worth every second, I promise you. It's made the rounds at a number of sites in recent days:

Was there even a quarter of a second of something positive with the preds in that video?
Other than that, it was cool.

I also saw Pekka’s OT save on Bieksa from the playoffs.

I missed that one, I was actually looking for it.

I thought I saw it, but on a second viewing maybe I was incorrect? The moments flash by so quickly!
Either way, I see the lack of Preds stuff as a sign of how much potential there is for this franchise. If folks thought last season’s playoffs were exciting, that’s just a taste of what a deep run is like.

thought i saw that one too, but some of that stuff passes by pretty quickly.

I guess its impressive that ESPN thought of including Nashville in its "news"
the pessimist in me thinks its only because they think he’ll end up in a major television market, however. errrrrrrr……..
...more on ESPN
Interestingly enough, Scott Burnside on the 12/22 episode of the ESPN Hockey Today podcast chose his visit to Nashville during the Nashville/Vancouver playoff series as his favorite hockey moment of 2011. He goes on and on about the fans gathering to greet the team at the airport and what a great hockey town Nashville has become. Just good stuff to hear. We get some good press once in a while.

If both the Stars and Flames miss the playoffs by a point or two, they’ll be looking back at 12/29/11 as a big reason why. Can’t blow points against teams like the Jackets and Islanders if you wanna make the big show!

That video was absolutely fantastic.
I will be sharing that one around, for sure. Among other things, love the shot of X-thousand people all jumping around outside after what was clearly a playoff win, as well as the clip of the Canadian flag getting passed around the stadium. Wish the had included the clip of Smitty going bat-crap crazy after scoring that playoff goal last year, but what can you do…
