Predators' Tootoo to face disciplinary hearing - NHL.com
We shouldn't be surprised here, as Jordin Tootoo faces a hearing for his collision with Ryan Miller Saturday night.

I can't remember
what was the outcome of Lucic’s hearing?
Call on the ice was correct. Charging minor. No suspension.

The game misconduct and subsequent 4 on 1 beatdown should be more than enough of a penalty… but who knows with the NHL, they always seem to find interesting times to make an example.
I agree this is what should happen
No call on miller for at least “roughing” should factor into this for sure. However I think VOLS7381 is right, we are not Boston and it was TooToo that is in question.
Gut feeling:
10 games. The GMs said Shannaban screwed up and should’ve suspended Lucic. Now Shanny will make an example of a player who most of the league hates. Also, not too many people outside of the Nashville DMA care enough to fight against a suspension.
The business of protecting the players
seems to be getting reactionary and out of hand, though so far I have been pleased with Shannahammer’s rulings as he seems to be trying to stick very strictly to the rules as they are written. …and I say that as someone who is very much in favor of things like visors, softer boards, softer pads, major penalties, and definitely punishing players who try to injure other players with intentional actions.
Now, even though Tootoo definitely deserved a penalty (though definitely not a match upon further review), the fact that a suspension is in the dicussion is absolutely ridiculous. Tootoo very clearly launched almost all of his body weight away from Miller in an attempt to lessen the “collision”. A collision that rocked him so hard he was able to start landing blows before Tootoo’s lower half had even made it back down to the ice. This is 50% reputation (fair enough) and %50 a complete overreaction from a Sabres team that did nothing when Miller took a real shot 3 weeks ago.
Not surprised at the hearing and I won’t be surprised if he is made an example of. I am a little surprised at how many people think there is no place for this kind of play in a professional hockey game. I guess maybe I just grew up with a different league. Whatever. I wonder if this will even get looked at? Probably not…suspending a Canuck that scores goals is a little different than making up the rules as you go on one of the most hated players in the league in a small Southern market. Looks like the GM’s may need to add some new candy-@$$ lines to Rule 42 at some point…

Wow….the booth incident looks similar……but we all know (just ask a few here) tootoo was wreckless and booth was just trying to score. (end sarcasm)
We will see if shanaban treats these plays equally. I doubt it. When your on ice officials are calling a game based on a previous incident, then there should be no surprise mr booth won’t be on the radar while tootoo will serve a suspension, for the same play. Apparently the NHL officials and some here are exerts on intent.

Huh. I'd say the Booth hit is worth than the Tootoo hit.
At least Tootoo tried to avoid it! Booth just shoved him straight to the ice.

Thank you
This hearing is every bit as “absolutely ridiculous” as you say it is. Miller should not only be investigated for overreaction with his fists, he should also be chastised for biting Tootoo in the pileup. Yes, I was on the glass in Section 120 and saw him do it. Why else would Suter twist Miller’s head the way he did? I guess all the camera angles the armchair disciplinarians have inspected so closely weren’t focused on that aspect of the fracas,

Hopefully shanny does his job and gets statements from everybody…….but again, I have serious doubts. I’ll be the first to apologize if shanny takes everything into account. But again, I doubt it.
Miller didn’t get reprimanded for swinging his stick at lucic, so there is no reason to believe he will be held accountable for his biting and punching in the aftermath of bodies on the ice.
The NHL, inadvertently I believe, has created the miller rule…….he can deal out retribution with no re course. No penalties. I feel sorry for the teams in his conference, they could get hurt by a piece of his equipment as he uses it as a weapon if he thinks they get too close.

NOR DID MODANO
for actually hitting toots w/ his stick a couple years back. toots got that suspension. toots will get something due to his history alone. we will see if they over do it to make up for last time.
I was gonna mention that play. Toots checked Modano and another player came rushing in….and Tootoo knocked him out with his glove on…..Modano then slashed Tootoo across the shoulder with his stick. Of course, no penalty.

Booth is NHL’s 2nd Star from last night.

I think 10 is a bit exccesive...
I would put this somewhere around 2-4 game range. Shannaban usually doesn’t go over the 3 game mark unless it was a deliberate intent to injure after the whistle (Like Wisniewski) or the there is an injury as a result of the hit.
Leading up to this moment, Tootoo has said all the right things in the media to plead his case (I was pushed, I tried to avoid him but failed, etc.).
I am really looking forward to the video explanation to see whether or not Shannaban avoids commenting on the repeated blows Miller delivered with his blocker pad (which is clear violation of the rules and an eject-able offense).
Pardon me, I mustache you a question...

I think you’re on the mark here. 4 games is my guess.
Defense keeps you in games........offense wins them!

Great line from FB comments
I saw Ryan Miller at a battered woman’s shelter this morning. #kidding
I personally heard he is still being examined by team physicians to determine what kind of major injury he sustained so they can report it before the disciplinary hearing. I’m guessing they will announce a spinal injury about 10 minutes before the hearing and then downgrade to a sprained vulva afterward.

Its a shame
that he should even have to get a suspension. If Miller was at all a man he would come forward and apologize. I am very dissapointed in the NHL Network’s remarks towards Tootoo. Saying that Miller should have knocked all of Tootoos teeth out and that he was proud of Miller for jumping in. And then Gaustad comes down the ice to threaten Lindback. Very classy move.
What I would give to see us play Buffalo again this year with an active Toots! Gaustad could bring whatever he wanted then!
Btw—if Toots would have really charged this guy the way they are claiming, he would still be at the Vandy ER on life support! We love you Toots!

Booth
I keep looking for what you guys are talking about. I figure that you are referring to David Booth. Can someone give me a reference?

By NHL standards he ran calgarys goalie. Exact type of play as the tootoo incident. There is a link to it in Marcus’s post above.

There is one major difference. Booth didn’t use the back of his head to interfere with Kipper’s fists. Toots obviously was trying to injure Miller’s hands with his noggin.

Remember folks, we ain't Boston....
Expect an excessive “message” to be sent to the other bottom feeders of the league that this type of heinous play will not be tolerated. If it had been Toots who almost killed Savard he would just be getting out of prison. Chara? Just a hockey play that had unfortunate consequences.

will you please update me with the Tootoo results please.

booth hit
Very similiar, but there appeared to be less force on contact. I hate that this play will get Toots suspended. Especially after he took the punches from Miller. This really goes to show how hockey has changed over the years. And if you are an aggressive player, you cant breathe near a Goalie. I hope that Shanny suprises us all. But I doubt it. And I hope that he explains things with the replay like he has done often in the past. If he doesnt, we know how it went down. And it would not have mattered if he would have even looked at it.
I am proud of Trotz for speaking up on Toots side of things. Whats right is right. And I have seen alot of Buffalo fans that have not been reasonable or shown any class over this. I understand losing your star G. But if it did not happen that way, it didnt happen that way.

Well, it is what it is; there is no accounting for how people in power positions make decisions. But usually, they are in favor of the biggies over the littles. It’s the way of the world. I suspect Toots will get four games-the goalie was just back from a concussion, Buffalo is a favored team, the Grand Poopah wants to make a lesson of it all.
"I am you, you are me, and we are all together" Beatles
Shanaban explanation:
There are several differences in the incidences involving Boston, Nashville and Vancouver. In the Stanley Cup Champ Boston incident, you see lucic hitting a goalie with no defensive pressure and no net to impede progress, so its obvious, with no outside influence, lucic could not pull up to avoid contact. He told me so. So no suspension.
In Vancouver, David Booth was driving to the net, attempting to score a goal. The defenseman applied pressure with his body, hand and stick. Both were approaching the net, giving no path for Mr Booth to avoid contact, resulting in illegal contact…..But I view this as a hockey play so there is no need for a ruling.
In The Nashville incident, Jordin Tootoo recklessly crashes toward the net with no apparant intent to score a goal. The dman attempted to guide Tootoo away from his goalie with his hand, his body and a hook, but Mr Tootoo barrelled forward and did not attempt to skate either in front or behind the goal, resulting in goalie contact, and as they fell to the ice, Mr Tootoo became entangled with the goalies blocker and teeth….several times.
For his actions, resulting in damage to both gums, teeth and an expensive blocker, Mr Tootoo will be suspended for ____ games.
