Yesterday's TV timeout standing ovation. I've been to four of these, including the first one ever, and I thought it was the loudest of them all.

Sorry, this was not as loud as the first one.

completely agree....

I’ve been to every “standing ovation” game—which has been about 7 or 8. Not only was this one the least loud, but it also was the least inspired.

Really?

Hmm, maybe since its been so long since I’ve been for a win, this one seemed awesomer

You could tell it was getting ready to happen.

But most of all it felt forced. Even from the beginning of it. I’ve been at probably 5 of them and this one was by far the least genuine.

Meh

Yeah, it was forced (Oh! We killed a penalty! We’ve managed a tie against the second-worst team in the conference!) and they’ve become more common than I’m comfortable with. But kvetching about it seems all too a little “I’m more punk rock than you” to me.

There’s nothing we can do about the O coming, so we might as well enjoy it. Get it? Heh.

There was a level of "cool" the first time that will never be matched.

It was the greatest moment in sports I have ever been a part of. So many emotions that night.

But, it is becoming a tradition now, and that has it’s own level of “cool”. We are all taking part in the establishment of what could become an enduring part of the Predator story.

I liked our one in the Chicago game… that resulted in a goal right after :) but lets be honest, is any standing O for our boys not great?

Some people are never satisfied.

Maybe comparing moments against one another is your first problem. I enjoy every standing ovation I’m a part of, regardless of how it measures up to others. It was the freaking Avalanche—I’m surprised a standing ovation happened at all. Every time it happens is special is my eyes.

First standing O

Unless I’m forgetting something (which is entirely likely), the first spontaneous standing O came after the concluding game of the 2004 First Round Playoffs with Detroit. The Preds lost but the sellout crowd acknowledged the team’s work in getting to the postseason for the first time. It was so unexpected it was spine tingling. I’ve been thrilled to be a part of every one of them since, however it may have compared on any scale.

Not just first standing O, first tv timeout standing O

Nowadays when the standing O is referred to, it’s not just any standing O but ones that occur specifically during a tv timeout. The first tv timeout standing O was the last regular season home game against the Blues on April 3, 2008. The Preds had not yet clinched the final playoff spot and were really fighting it out to get that last spot. The previous game had been an away game against the Blues where the Blues had gone up 3-0 in the first period but the Preds fought back to win in OT and this game was going to be another hard-fought game.

During this last home game, the Preds scored first but the Blues took the lead 2-1 in the second. The Preds then tied it up in the second and took the lead again early in the third period. The Blues gave it their all and really bombarded the Preds in that third period to try and tie it up. With the excitement of the playoff spot being closer and closer to being assured as the third period was nearing its close and with the Preds scrambling a bit to keep the Blues at bay, the first tv timeout standing O was born. We had all been given free t-shirts and people started waving them over their heads and everyone stood up and joined in during the entire course of the tv timeout. It was as if the fans in the building were willing the team to hold onto that lead. It’s one of my favorite memories, most definitely up there in best sporting moments I’ve been a part of.

That one against the Sharks brought tears to my eyes, when we scored 3 goals in 27 seconds or something like that.

Agreed. I was there too. But the postgame standing O in 2004 had more people squeezed into the stands—at 17,329, exactly 210 above capacity—and they were all equipped with Thunderstix!

Cool!

We were in the same section!

And yeah, I was just so happy that they killed the penalty.
