Ryan Suter "likely" to miss time from Shane Doan hit

In a report on tonight's Sports Zone on Nashville's Fox 17, Willy Daunic shared word that Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Suter, who was injured by a hit from Shane Doan in last night's 3-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes (video below), will "miss some time, they've got their fingers cross that it's not more than a week". There was no official update from the team, but that's the impression which Willy shared this evening.

With Francis Bouillon still on the shelf for an indeterminate amount of time with a concussion, one wonders who the Predators might call up from the Milwaukee Admirals to help fill out the blueline. While Roman Josi and Jonathon Blum are promising young players, at this time of year, with each game playing a large role in the Western Conference playoff chase, my money would be on veteran Aaron Johnson to get the call. But of course, stay tuned...

Earlier this season, Suter missed 11 games with a lower body injury due to a hit from Calgary's Cory Sarich. Despite missing that much time, he's tied for the team lead in assists with Shea Weber at 25.

Praying for Suter’s speedy recovery!

Also a possibility to be called up is Teemu Laakso. He’s pretty terrible but they’ve seemed to like him in the past.

Dirk could’ve also listed “play Belak on defense.” but that would’ve been a silly option

Blum

does anyone know if he has gotten stronger? i think that is what kept him from playing on opening night. IF he is stronger now than i guess he is the best option.

Good luck with Blum

Rumor spreading Blum is on his way. If he is – good luck!! He is not ready will be a Klein #2 for you. He makes too many mistakes. Laakso is more solid.

by ScottieS on Feb 21, 2011 12:46 AM EST reply actions

not good

Laakso has been…well let’s just say “Unimpressive” so far. What do you think about Josi? Might he be ready?

If Jon Blum is actually worse than Teemu Laakso, we’re so hosed.

Josi

Josi is probably ready, definitely one of the most solid d-men here. Don’t think they are going to rush him though. He did make a mistake last night that may have led to a goal but that is extremely rare for him.

Laakso has been very solid here. I think he and Josi are the most solid. Johnson also has a lot of “Klein” moments.

I sure hope Suter comes back soon.

Please don't be serious.

Last time Suter was out the Preds went 3-5-1. That was with Franky still in the line-up. Calling someone else besides Sulzer could disastrous.

That is exactly what went through my mind as well

Right when the team needs to start to get into that last-20-games-of-the-season groove…
This could get bad.

See this is what I have been afraid of since the first of January

The Preds are just one injury to Weber/Suter to going into a possible tailspin. This is why I was so down on the team when they lost those games the last few weeks that they should have won, because I had a feeling that something like this may happen. Especially this year. This team is great when they play their game, but when they lose one of those “integral” parts this puts more pressure on our forwards to score, and we know that is like rolling the dice around here.

Yeahh...

I have a really, really bad feeling about this…

Amazing timing as usual

Didn’t Hornqvist get injured at the end of last season in a PHO game??? somebody needs to pay them back. If we call somebody up, I would bet its Josi. We’ve been hearing that he’s solid all year and he’s also a left-handed shot like Suter. It would make the most sense I think.

We need a puck moving defenseman

I am not sure if that is Josi, Blum, Laakso, or a trade/waiver pickup. Franson moves the puck pretty well, not sure if we want to pair him with Weber. Maybe Blum or Josi with Weber that would give them a solid parter??

Call up Aaron Johnson?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha….

Thanks Dirk, I needed that.

If Nashville needs someone to take one or two stupid penalties a game, can’t hold the point, little more than a practice cone covering the opposing teams rush, then AJ is for you.

The only thing he does with any kind of regularity is launch shots from the blueline.

I honestly want him called up and have some GM on the end of a 3 day bender claim him when he gets sent back on waivers.
