Personally, I think he was being a bit generous when he said “we played well the first period and a half”
ya, I don’t like Smithson and Ward on his line. Don’t get me wrong, Ward and Smithson are great at what they do but Wilson probably won’t get much production there…. maybe Trotz put him there as a demotion and he just didn’t get the hint

Yeah, I wasn’t trying to slam Smithson and Ward. Like you said they are great at being a shutdown line, but putting arguably our best offensive prospect (young sensation) on a line with guys that typically don’t produce a lot of offense. Just seems strange.
If you want to demote him, why not let him center JP and Halischuk on the “4th line.” That would at least keep him with two guys with more offensive abilities.
a couple of thoughts.
1) trotz may want Wilson to simplify his game, which could reduce the mistakes he has been making here of late.
2) “the Dumont effect”. being on this line can take Wilson off the boards letting his line mates win those battles now, and let him play the slot, where IMO Wilson is an absolute beast. Colin can just worry about getting open in the slot, and let his linemates win the battles along the board and getting the puck to him.
I don’t want to see Wilson slide back like this either, but i never liked the idea of him and HornQ on the same line. It put our best 2 slot players/ net crashers on the same line. Unfortunately, Wilson has not been able to play to his strengths, having been asked to take more of a perimeter role and letting HornQ take control of the slot.
