OtF Goal of the Week (3/20-3/26)
Long time, no post! I've been busy with work and went on a long cruise for spring break, so it's been quite an effort just to keep up with the Preds alone. It was getting harder and harder to do these posts when I last did one because the Predators were going through a slump, but it's much easier to do today! This past week, we scored 15 16 (addition fail) goals! I couldn't let some of these beauties miss the contest, so I'm going to put in 5 to vote on instead of 3. Will our hometown hero make the contest?
Let's see after the jump...
A. Blake Geoffrion starts a comeback.
I was listening to this game while driving back from my cruise. What better way to cheer you up from realizing that your vacation is over than a huge comeback victory led by our hometown hero. Oh, and to top it all off, my girlfriend (who is a diehard Buffalo Sabres fan) was sitting right next to me.
Blake Geoffrion (5) Wrist Shot - Assists: none
B. Martin Erat finishes a comeback.
What?! A 4 on 4 goal to win the game?! I think we all knew that there was no way we were going to lose when we tied it up.
Martin Erat (14) Slap Shot - Assists: R. Suter (31) & D. Legwand (23)
C. Martin Erat capitalizes on some great passes.
It seems like a great passing sequence finished off with a a score like this only comes around a few times a season so this one has to be in here. I <3 Leggy and Wardo. They made the Oilers look like the Oilers!
Martin Erat (15) Wrist Shot - Assists: J. Ward (18) & D. Legwand (24)
D. David Legwand's shorty against the Ducks.
That was a perfect screen by Wardo and a perfect shot by Leggy. And, shockingly, it turned out to be the GWG.
SHG - David Legwand (15) Wrist Shot - Assists: J. Ward (19) & K. Klein (15)
E. Mike Fisher ends his drought.
Now that was a snipe! Is it just me or has Hornqvist been setting up a lot of goals lately?
Mike Fisher (16) Slap Shot - Assists: P. Hornqvist (21) & S. Kostitsyn (24)
Don't forget to vote and leave a comment!
Did I miss a play that you think should be in here? Let me know!

Hard not to pick Geoffrion because of the hattie, or Fisher because, as you said, it was a bullet. Erat’s OT shot gives me chillbumps, but it’s because it was such an amazing couple of minutes. I have to go for the “tic-tac-toe” goal for it’s general awesomeness.

Have to go with Erat’s comeback-winner. It was a great effort by Geoffrion to enable the comeback, but there’s something special about that winner. Especially when considering up to that point the Preds hadn’t won one in the 5 minute OT period.
Actually, we did.
Boston, three days before. But point taken.
I tell people who ask that I'm majoring in Spectator Sports with a minor in Sleep.
It only changes
if you say, we hadn’t won in the 4 on 4 sudden death before. because Boston was a 4 on 3 PPG

Hard to choose
But how I decided was by realizing that the reason that most of these goals were so special to me was the context, whether it be the hometown kid starting a comeback, our first 4 on 4 OT win (the one against Boston was 3 on 4), Fisher breaking a drought, or Leggy bagging a shortie.
while all these goals were nicely done, the one that I thought was still the most dazzling once the context was stripped away was the Tic-Tac-Goal!

The best goal was Fisher’s laser, so I have to go with that.
"Nothing." - Tuukka Rask, after being asked what he saw on Shea Weber's game winner in overtime.
I went with Fisher...

Best week of the season?
Not only were these great goals this week, these were some of the best all year. I guess during the playoff run, all goals are big.
For sure, this didn't even include
Fisher’s backhand,
either of SK74’s pair on the Ducks
Spals pounding the rebound home on Hiller
Legwand’s breakaway on Dubnyk
Tootoo’s through the defender’s legs score on Ellis
or Leggy’s SH-ENG (just kidding)
There were a lot of great goals this week that didn’t even make the ballot.

The Geoffrion goal
was really not that special. If he hadn’t earned a hat trick that night I don’t even know if it would be on this list. It’s the type of goal that I like, those hard work, grind it out types, but compared to some of the others on this list…. nope.
Yeah...
I figured he deserved to be on here since he single-handedly won the game for us while getting a hat trick. (And I had to pick one of the goals)

Horny's goal
after stripping Hamhuis is my goal of the week, every week. Forever.
The best defense is a good defense.
One other note on that Legwand/Ward/Erat play against the Oilers: take note, those who discount secondary assists.

Indeed
Shoot, if Erat hadn’t scored the goal, you could even give him a tertiary assist for his little drop pass at the blueline.
