I feel bad for Phoenix.

Especially since this may be the last series in Phoenix (if the Winnipeg rumors are true), it must feel awful to get swept.

We have sympathy for Coyote fans, after the relocation scare we suffered a few years back.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 18, 2011 11:53 PM EDT reply actions

I feel bad for the Yotes too. I picked them for the upset this series. Bryz just let in some iffy goals and didn’t play like he’s played all season. I’m afraid they’re gone and I feel bad for the true fans in Phoenix. I’m sure a few days after they are eliminated, word will come down that they’re headed to the Peg. I’m happy for Winnipeg, but I feel bad for Phoenix. I should be interesting if that happens though, since that will likely mean a slight change in the Western Conference divisions.

by JasonF on Apr 18, 2011 11:55 PM EDT up reply actions

I said this elsewhere in a thread during this series, but I don’t know whether you saw it. Did you see something this past season about hypothetical hockey-related reality shows? The funniest one, and only one I really remember at this point, was this:

Kate Plus Eight, about the entire ’Yotes fan base.

I feel a little bad laughing about it, but come on…that’s funny!

by LuvthePreds on Apr 18, 2011 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions

I feel a tiny bit bad too, but it is funny. There are certainly more Red Wing fans there tonight than ‘Yote fans. I can’t really blame the city. They have to know there team is likely going to get jerked out from under them and that can’t be easy.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

How many Red Wings fans are in Anaheim for games? There’s far too much red in our barn when they’re in town, but some are from when Saturn (the automobiles – ha!) came to TN.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:04 AM EDT up reply actions

There are a fair amount that show up. I haven’t been to a game in Anaheim since I made my way down there for game 1 of the of SCF in ’07 (best time of my life!), but on telecasts it looks like a decent amount of RW fans.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Good for the Yotes. They just scored!

by JasonF on Apr 18, 2011 11:56 PM EDT reply actions

All but a must-win for them

but they still have dug a pretty deep hole for themselves, given their opponent.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:00 AM EDT up reply actions

Yes...

but, at the end of the day, that guy’s name is still Schlemko.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:01 AM EDT up reply actions

Hahaha. His name could be Avery or Cooke. That’d be even worse. Or Perry! Hahaha. :P

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:02 AM EDT up reply actions

The truths are coming hard and fast…

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Hahaha. I figured some people that read this might like that.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:06 AM EDT up reply actions

Quite so…though to be honest, I wouldn’t put Perry in with those…fellows. Everyone knows about them and hates them, but before this series, I only had a vague notion of Perry being a little, how would you say…sandpapery?

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:10 AM EDT up reply actions

To say it nicely, yes. Hahaha

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Some names make for a very good argument re: being legally changed.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:03 AM EDT up reply actions

While others are worth their weight in gold:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Goodenough

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:07 AM EDT up reply actions

He was only Goodenough to play 6 seasons in the NHL? That’s a shame. I thought he was Goodenough to play longer.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:09 AM EDT up reply actions

He was Goodenough to win a Stanley Cup, though sadly not Goodenough to help his team defend their title.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Wonder whether he was Goodenough as a boyfriend, husband, father? Not much of an endorsement.

“Mom, Dad, I’d like you to meet my boyfriend. He’s Goodenough.”

My cousin delivered babies while doing an obstetrics rotation while in medical school. One patient named her daughter (I’m spelling it phonetically, the way she pronounced it): Vuh-Geena. But the way she spelled it, it wouldn’t be underlined by spell check.

Totally serious.

She jokingly told another patient that she should name her baby girl Pamela after her (my cousin, who’d delivered the baby). When she checked on the lady the next day, she’d said "I named my baby what you told me to, but I’m gonna say it “Pa-Meal-Yuh.” She seemed to legitimately believe that my cousin had demanded that she name her daughter that, and couldn’t be dissuaded.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:08 AM EDT up reply actions

People…

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:13 AM EDT up reply actions

Celebrities’ babies’ names can be just as bad…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:15 AM EDT up reply actions

Quite…though celebrities almost by definition only do what they do to get attention, so it’s not very surprising when they do it.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Has anyone watched the Wings/Yotes series enough to know whether Howard has been playing that well, or are the Coyotes playing that pooly?

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:12 AM EDT reply actions

I’ve watched a bit of it, and it looks to me like PHX is being badly dominated 5 on 5.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:14 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep. The ‘Yotes just aren’t bringing it. They’re getting outplayed in this series like the Ducks in game 3 against the Preds.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:16 AM EDT up reply actions

And hopefully game 4.

So let it be. : D

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:18 AM EDT up reply actions

I don’t see that happening. Did you see Teemu’s comments. If that doesn’t light a fire under your ass, I don’t know what will. Put me on the ice Coach C, I’ll go get dirty in front of the net. Teemu has inspired me.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:19 AM EDT up reply actions

I think the Preds have only been outplayed two of nice periods thus far, though…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions

Two of nine. And those were not nice periods…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

But as we saw on Sunday, it doesn’t have to be full periods for us to score and be right back in the game. Losing 4-3 when playing like crap is promising. Pekka looked very human on Sunday night. Hopefully he’s like that Wednesday night. This is pretty much a must win. I don’t see us winning three straight against the Preds if we drop this one.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

He was so mad!
That anger wasn’t even directed at me and I’ve cleaned up my act since witnessing it. I’m somewhat concerned for the Preds’ sake.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

Too funny!
I’ve cleaned up my act since witnessing it

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

Maybe he’ll come talk with my teenagers.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

I haven’t seen it. I’ll have to try and find video footage…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

SEEN it? Good Lord, neither have I. They can’t just put that kind of caustic material out there on the internet/television for any halfway decent person to stumble on. Reading it was quite enough.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:30 AM EDT up reply actions

No kidding. I feel shame and I wasn’t even on the ice. I sure as hell am going to try harder on Wednesday. I will not let my team down again.

I can just see it next year. A new History Will Be Made commercial with Teemu talking like that and then hoisting the cup. knock on wood :D

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Remember how last year's playoff series led to some memorable CHI fans that hung out on our boards a lot?

i remember two most clearly: one I really liked, and that other guy.

Wonder whether Jason and JuM will come visit when we play the Ducks next year? Some of the CHI fans still come see us…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:17 AM EDT reply actions

(Not naming names, in the quite-unlikely event that the most-annoying CHI fan were to come here and read this thread).

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions

I might. I haven’t been on SBNation a lot until today actually. Been getting my ass kicked in college. But I’m just about finished up and graduating in June and have a ton of time on my hands this last term so what better way to spend it than watching and talking hockey! I should have more time once I graduate too so I might stop back by. I like talking hockey with fans who are reasonable and can agree to disagree on certain things.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:21 AM EDT up reply actions

You’re always welcome here, but I’d think the playoffs would be a great time to try and increase traffic at your sbnation site…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:23 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah… Anaheim Calling has been a little dead lately. Not a lot to comment on. People are a little grumpy all around Duck-land right now. I try to stay Teemuish (aka positive). The only reason I got here was from ESPN of all places. Two people posted about Marchant at the same time which I thought was stranged. I asked where they got the idea from and they mentioned OtF so I went there and started talkin’. Some nice people there too.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:26 AM EDT up reply actions

I apparently have AD/HD when it comes to where people are from. Where did you say you’re in college?

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:24 AM EDT up reply actions

I live in Oregon and I’m going to the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, OR. It’s just above the California/Oregon border.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:27 AM EDT up reply actions

My brother-in-law used to teach at Eastern OR Univ.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:31 AM EDT up reply actions

I almost wish we'd drawn the Coyotes now...

Think of all the “You guys haven’t won a second-round game since, when, before you were part of the NHL?” sort of jabs that could be made at them…

Though, to be fair, throwing insults about first-round exits might backfire…

I rather wanted to see them put the Oldwings out, but never thought they would. Sad day.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:21 AM EDT reply actions

I have this affinity for their team and fans, but I don’t know how long that would last in a playoff series.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:22 AM EDT up reply actions

Red Wings just scored again. Damn.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:32 AM EDT reply actions

Sad for PHX to get swept (assuming it's a pretty good possibility)

But we’ll celebrate if CHI is swept. Ice cream for dinner, or somethin’. (We do that on vacation for lunch sometimes, and my kids think it’s the best thing ever!)

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:36 AM EDT reply actions

I’m so sick of Chicago. Good for them getting their team back together. But a big birdie to Bettman for ramming them down my throat with a few select other teams.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:38 AM EDT up reply actions

It’ll be interesting to see what an early exit from the postseason does re: the bandwagon fans.

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions

Yep. It was amazing how many they had. I’m not going to say the Ducks don’t have them, but Chicago has a ton.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:46 AM EDT up reply actions

I’ve been thinking that all season…

Before the season started, me and a buddy picked where each team would finish, and I had them at 9th, I think, or maybe 10th. Just outside the playoffs, anyway. The bandwagon fans (and some of the media) just couldn’t seem to grasp that they offloaded a third of their roster, and were going to be considerably worse this year.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:48 AM EDT up reply actions

And for years to come. They haven’t made smart signings. Instead, they look to make news with them based on the length and the size of the contract.

by JasonF on Apr 19, 2011 12:49 AM EDT up reply actions

43.75 hours 'til game 4!

At least, unless I’m too tired to calculate that correctly.

On that note, g’night…

by LuvthePreds on Apr 19, 2011 12:46 AM EDT reply actions

Another PPG.
Those are nice, but the Phoenixes (heh) need to figure out how to score 5 on 5, or they are getting swept.

The best defense is a good defense.

by Smashvillain on Apr 19, 2011 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions

Well Phoenix is done. 4-2 final. Ouch.
