OtF First Round Prediction Tracker
Before the playoff games kicked off, several of us offered our picks for who would win each series. I grabbed each person's selections in order to track all of our prognostications to see which of us ends up with the most correct choices.
So in the interest of historical accuracy, follow the jump to see everyone's picks in a nice, clean format.

| Winner: Correct number of games | 3 pts. |
| Winner: Incorrect number of games | 1 pt. |
| Incorrect winner | 0 pts. |
In keeping a tally, I think we can use the following point scale: 3 points if you picked the winner in the correct number of games, 1 point if you picked the winner in an incorrect number of games, and 0 points if you picked the losing team. I will be updating this post manually as each series closes out. (Since this is manual, let me know if there are any errors in calculations or if I have incorrect picks for people.)
Once Round 1 of the playoffs is complete and we know the matchups in the next round, it would be good to get predictions for the next set of series, and we might as well accumulate the points as the playoffs continue on. So leave your predictions in the comments. If you didn't get in on this first set, feel free to join in!

Cool
This is really neat, thanks for doing this.
Also, JR…killing it.

This is awesome!
Now we have reason to complain about 3 point games again!
"The Final Countdown" is now playing in your head. You're welcome.
I think I said Phoenix in 7, but it matters not. Coyotes Jets just bent over for that one. JR perfect so far! GJ.

I will go back and doublecheck later on today. I was doing that during work hours and many predictions were coming in fast.

Preds and Canucks could earn me six more points today!

I started keeping track on a whim and it grew into this. Once the 2nd round matchups are set, we can all just make our picks here in the comments section, and I’ll do the same thing. I mentally set the cutoff time as the start of the first game of that round, so we will yet have some time to do that once the teams are matched.
So if the kings win
No one will get points!

By the way this is awesome
I checked back at my predictions. I had the Preds in 6. Its blank for me here.

Wow. This is the problem with doing things manually. My mind must have seriously been playing tricks on me, because I remember there being someone who picked the Preds but didn’t give a number of games. Obviously that wasn’t you, so I don’t know what to say except I was in a hurry to get all the picks down. I’ll fix that in a second.
And here’s the reference for the original picks.
(Haven’t mentioned it before, but love the SW reference for your nick. Sounds much more menacing than Zuckuss or Bossk.)
No problem on missing the 6 games
Indeed 88 would eat them for breakfast, That is if he ate organic matter.

And Chris is the only one that’ll get points if the Hawks win lol
"My, my, here's one for the (no) neck. Don't relax, 'cause you're next for the check!"
He will get the number of games right as well!

hmmm
I knew I shoulda picked Preds in 6. I got scared though. I didn’t think we were that good. It’s nice to see we are though…

Ha!
It may look like I didn’t have faith, but I am too superstitious to predict my own team winning (in writing at least!). Thanks for setting this spreadsheet up. Pretty cool!
Go Preds!
You’re not the only one… Preds would’ve gotten swept if I had picked them.

At least I picked up a point on that series…….

Updated!
Just added the San Jose series win in six games. Tonight we will see 2 more series come to a close, possibly three. And we will know which direction the Predators’ flight will be heading.
Philly and Vancouver could give me one point each. And I need Montreal to win to keep my hopes of a three-pointer alive in that one. Someone should totally pay me to do this stuff.

It wasn’t until I looked at my picks afterward that I noticed I went with the higher seed in each series except for Nashville. When I realized that, it kind of disturbed me. I really wanted to pick Buffalo but thought the team defense would help overcome the goalie issues they have. And Chicago really surprised me.
If all three of these games break the right way for me tonight, I could pick up 9pts.! :o
Roll that dice, baby! :)

Woo hoo………two dark greens in the win column tonight! :)
by Grizzledbear on Apr 27, 2011 1:23 AM EDT via mobile reply actions
It's kind of Academic now
But JR has clinched at least a share of the first round title. By my calculations, there are only 2 others who can match the 14 points that he has: Dirk and DonBorvio. In all but one combination of the outcomes of the games tonight, JR will be ahead of the others.
The only case where there will be a tie at 14 points will be if TB wins and BOS wins. JR would remain at 14 and Dirk would add 4 to his total. All other cases will result in JR winning outright!
Was about to make the same comment. I am FIRST ROUND CHAMPION.

But a first round win does not a Stanley Cup prediction contest winner make! :D
But congrats on your early round success (stupid Bruins!).

Man, I get 7 of 8 series winners right but still trail in this contest……….I demand a new point system! :D
by Grizzledbear on Apr 27, 2011 10:44 PM EDT via mobile reply actions
Well, you get what you pay for. Anyway, I had thought about making it even more complicated, based on how many games away from the actual number of games played, but that became more of a headache. Plus I had to come up with something quick as I was ready to publish and get it out there.
It’s all good. :)
No time to waste with games in the 2nd round tomorrow night! Should we put our picks here or in a seperate thread?

What do ya'll say about
Philly vs. Boston in Round 2?
by Only Fan In J.C. ? on Apr 27, 2011 11:04 PM EDT reply actions
“Are you ready for a war?!!” is all I can think of. That should be entertaining, and I’m not sure PHI is completely settled with blindly using Boucher the rest of the way. But BOS has looked inept a lot, so who knows.
I don't know much about the East
so I really don’t have much idea how these teams will match up. My gut would say that Thomas should be able to steal some games for them, but I thought Miller would be able to do it for Buffalo too. Price seems like he was quite a decent goalie, probably a lot better than Boucher. But I don’t want to be embarassed by the same team a 2nd time, and they do have Pronger back now. What I really wonder is if Boston’s scoring will come to life any against Philly.

One thing that really helped me get to know a lot of the teams in the East was years ago when I started playing Fantasy Hockey. By doing the research on players and seeing who contributes what statistically and having to keep up with teams and the waiver wire, you get to know the other teams much better. Not everyone has time for that, I know, but it is a fun way to keep up with more than just your favorite teams.
I'm actually doing my first fantasy hockey
with this playoffs.
I put together a team from the FHS link that was offered here. I’m not doing very well, but at least Pavel Datsyuk, Shea Weber, and all three of my goalies (Thomas, Rinne, and Neuvirth) advanced. Actually I don’t think that any of my roster has been ko’ed from the playoffs yet. I went pretty much only with players on teams that I was pretty sure would advance.

So now the Round 2 matchups are set!
1 WSH vs 5 TB
2 PHI vs 3 BOS
1 VAN vs 5 NSH
2 SJ vs 3 DET
Everyone has until the puck drop of the first game of this round, which will at least be the Preds/Canucks game tomorrow evening, to get your picks for this round in. Any and all comers are welcome to do so. I haven’t had time to think it through as to whether each subsequent round should carry more weight than the prior round, so I’ll sleep on it and reach a decision tomorrow. I’ll start a different fan post once I get everyone’s picks formatted.
Alright, here we go.........
I’m gonna get stoned for my Preds/Nucks pick, but there’s a contest to win here! These are all tough matchups.
Caps over Bolts in 6
Flyers over Bruins in 7
Wings over Sharks in 6
Canucks over Preds in 5 very close games. :(

Jumping in for Round 2
Washington in 7
Bruins in 6
Sharks in 7
Preds in 6
If the honor system is allowed, I had 10 pts in Round 1 even though I didn’t submit my picks here on the board.
Got more points than I thought I would in the first round
here is my second round
1 WSH vs 5 TB——————- WSH in 6
2 PHI vs 3 BOS——————- PHI in 7
1 VAN vs 5 NSH—————— NSH in 6
2 SJ vs 3 DET———————- SJ in 5
"without imperfection, neither you nor I would exist" -Hawking
WSH – TBL = Tampa Bay in 7
PHI – BOS = Philly in 6
VAN – NSH = Nashville in 7
SAN – DET = San Jose in 6
Also (like Griz said), if we’re going honor system on the last one (mine wasn’t on here), I had 14 pts:
Nucks in 6 (7) = 1
Sharks in 4 (6) = 1
Preds in 6 (6) = 3
Caps in 5 (5) = 3
Flyers in 5 (7) = 1
Bruins in 5 (7) = 1
Lightning in 7 (7) = 3
P.S. I know I’m late, but I was writing a paper for an exam — any way I could get a little leeway?! :D
