2010-11 Nashville Predators Report Card: J.P. Dumont

With the season now over, it's time to take a look back and examine each player's individual performance. We'll briefly break it down, and then offer a letter grade for the year. It's report cards, Nashville Predators-style, from Blum to Wilson. Next up: J.P. Dumont.

The Skinny: Coming into the season, JP Dumont had been a steady contributor for Nashville on offense, and with the lack of firepower up front, the Predators were looking for him to keep it going. Consider them unpleasantly surprised. Dumont turned in the worst season of his Predators career and found himself in Trotz' doghouse for the majority of the latter part of this season and the playoffs, watching from the press box in favor of youngsters like Matt Halischuk and Blake Geoffrion.

The Performance: Dumont played in 70 regular season games, but that number is a bit deceiving, as he was scratched for a good part of Nashville's playoff push, and even when he dressed, Dumont was played sparingly, usually registering only 7 or 8 minutes of ice time. Dumont also put up lows in points, goals, and assists since arriving in the Music City and only appeared in 3 of the team's 12 playoff games, notching 1 assist.

The Grade: Any way you put it, J.P. Dumont had a terrible season. Predator fans would love to dump his $4 million salary he's due next year, but don't get your hopes up, as his contract includes a no-move clause, and the buyout would be hefty. As for this season, though, for what we're paying him, and the production he provided, I'll give Dumont a D.
